Carpenter bees are a huge problem around here. Painting the wood usually is enough to send them to the neighbor's wood. But if you're wanting to keep a natural wood look, stain and a polyurethane sealer is probably your best bet.

I'm thinking Steel siding on our Cedar Home. Those 3/8ths" holes in sort of fresh stained Cedar are a pain in the *** to keep Cedar Caulking up after spraying and watching them back out. The harmless guys are just a pain in the Arss when it comes to wood if you want a natural look. I have seen them totally tunnel out treated 2x4's maybe 10 years after instal. Hole boring Bumblebees are so cool until you access the damage or have to deal with them in your attic.
