Always My Fault??
Up at 5AM feeling pretty good, got to work, drinking my coffee perusing the FTE forums, suns comming up ,looks like it is going to be a nice day. PHONE RINGS!!!!!
Now, I know phone calls at 6:30AM are never good, especially when it's from my wife. Answer the phone, and a very very angry voice starts yelling at me. The F@$%^ING GARAGE DOOR SHUT ON MY TRUCK!!!Now when my 5'5" 117 pound wife uses profanity, you know something very bad did, or will happen.
I heard her ,but stalling so I can prepare myself for the next few seconds of my life, I say ..what??
She repeats her original statement. The FU@$ING GARAGE DOOR SHUT ON MY TRUCK!!!, and adds, "the door is stuck, and I can't get my truck in or out!!"
I make it quick, and tell her I'll be there in 10 minutes.
I Pull up in the driveway and see her Durango half in, half out of the garage, door bent and twisted, I take a deep breath and get out of my truck, walk over trying not to make eye contact. I get the door up so she can get her truck out, I check out all the scrapes and scratches to the truck ,all buffable but one on the roof, now, the garage door looks like a catch net on a aircraft carrier, but looks like I can bend it back until I can replace a few of the panels.
After a few minutes of not saying anything, I look over and she's standing there, a little teary eyed and shaken. I walk over to give her that understanding husband hug, to let her know it's ok and I'm not upset, and what does she say?? "What did you do to the door?" I say, I didn't do anything...she says "well look at my truck, you had to do something that made it screw up!!!"
Now, I really don't have a reputation for screwing things up nor would I ever do something like this on purpose, but I figured
I would quit while I'm ahead, and told her I can fix her truck, no biggie and I'll try to figure out what happened.
Well I know what happened but I wasn't about to say it at that time. She keeps the remote in a change holder on her console, probably jammed something else in there, which hit the button and closed the door when she was backing out, but in her mind, I somehow did something to make this happen to her.
Anybody else get blamed for things that happen like this?? or am I the only one with this burden??
when i was little i did close our old heavy wood door on my dad's truck, now mine. i did break the vent on the topper, and somehow the force broke the old wood garage door and entrance door. go figure
but other than that i've never had an incedent involving garage doors and trucks
My wife does this to me all the time. her van has been dented on every panel at least once, never her fault of course.
Even better, I sometimes feel foolishly that I can mediate between cat fights at work by bringing my superior male logic into play, what a stupid idea. All I EVER get for it is lots of scratches and the feeling of being in crossfire. Would be pretty funny if I wasn't within the blast zone.
Us guys will never figure it out. All we can do is lick our wounds and hope for the best.
Sorry about the truck.

What kind of door opener/closer do you have. All of the ones I have owned and worked on have a setting for down pressure. When the door strikes an object it reverses and goes back up , usually causing little or no damage. If your door has this, it must have been adjusted incorrectly.
Also the last two door openers that I installed had "electronic eye" sensors on them so that if something is under the door it will not close, and if it is in the process of closing, it will reverse.
I think these are available as retrofit kits for door openers that did not originally have them. This might go a long way toward mending the anger caused by the accident.
Good luck. Hope everything works out well.
I have Mother's Old Buick that has 4 "try to peel the vinyl off the car " type tears that have been siliconed back to the metal.
She unfortunately did the same thing "hit the button accidently"
The "coming down" touch sensor was working, the metal bottom flange of the door ,hooked the trim edge of the vinyl rather than coming down straight on the roof and popping back up.
Like the farmer says;" Manure Happens"!

Oh ya got all the bolt-ons, but they don't work if you continue to keep backing out, the poor door didn't have a chance.
I would of thought that the noise of the motor turning on would make one hit the brakes and stop rather than to keep going.
The door hooked on the roof rack, and by the time she stopped the door was bent and popped the reset on the motor. The bottom rollers were laying on the ground and the door bottom looked like an awning.
As far as her and I go, not the first time something like this has happend, and usually I am to blame...but not this time!!!
She seems to be in a better mood now, and actually ,sorta..kinda..in around about way appologized for blaming me.
I figure I'll just write this one down for future refences
Now that I recently got married, I am starting to see the transition... My wife thinks that just because a have worked on my truck and garage and jet ski's and boats, uhhhh - ok maybe I do work on a few things....

If I was confronted with such a situation as the Durango stuck in the garage door and a nagging/bitching woman I would simply get back in my car and go back to work and leave her to fix it herself. To quote my father "if ya gonna be dumb ya better be tough".

Good Luck with the garage door.
The Law
I know how to pick and choose my battles, this one wasn't worth it, it was one of HER vehicles and a garage door, now if she would of trashed one of mine, well then thats a different story.
It's all a trade off, when I blew up her jetski last year, she was upset, but she really didn't bite into me, she new if she didn't blame me she would be better off in the long run and it paid off for her in a new one.
In the big picture, the garage door incident will have far more value at a later time
NO automatic garage door opener. She wants to pull in/out of the garage, she has to open the door herself! Yeah, maybe she gets wet or cold in the Winter, but she can't blame me if the door falls on her truck or crushes a kitty.
Here's REALITY!:
Who wants to come help me install a new garage door opener this weekend?
Of course it's your fault! It's always "our" faults- even if they don't tell us that it's our fault, the other women know who is to blame when your wife/gf/so tells them the story of what happened. You get used to it.
