I don't have wasps I have discovered the entire length of the back of the motels eave has 18 borer bee holes and one huge nest. No I am mad. Got ride of all creepy crawlies after it changed hands and now I have a million bees the size of a Volkswagen hovering in the back. Grrrr! Since I was going to replace it next year I will have to do it this coming month. I got this powder that dehydrates the little hatchlings. I have to put it around the holes and then go deeper. They do not bother me or the dog or cats but its like living on the tarmac of LAX I know they are bugs and they well bug me but I hate to kill anything (except for snakes and scorpions) but being a motel I cannot have anything like that.
And now on top of everything my momma cat has started hunting on my mountain behind the motel and bringing everyone these things which have been identified as 'voles" Just what guests want on their doorstep...a rodent. Even tho I don't have them or any other critters here she just brings them back from her travels. That is just too creepy. But i have learned that hot dog tweezers are great or picking up dormant critters.
Nope!
The "dirt daubers" you speak of build nests in my Goldwing, riding mower etc....you get the idea.
When I first got my Goldwing, that thing had Lord knows how many dirt dauber nests built up under the plastic covers! Plus they build in my shed etc...
I just leave them alone.
If I ever come over for a BBQ, I will pass on the hot dogs!......hahaha!
Naw your okay..have separate set for hot dogs.
I was blessed with four voles layed on my back steps this morning. I have a call in to my animal guy to see if the numbers are up on them this year because last year there weren't any brought home. I would freak if we found a mouse here so this creeps me out. One was still breathing. My heart was breaking I was crying.....Oh the humanities.
I found a mud dauber nest on my truck's frame this last fall- wasps were already long gone, but I'm sure it's from the truck sitting last summer.
I'm hoping to not have problems with these guys this year since my vehicles won't really be sitting out for long periods of time like they have before.
I don't care for wasps...or yellowjackets. Yellowjackets aren't too aggressive but man, if you have open garbage cans or dumpsters with food (especially fruit) in them over the summer they will be all over that stuff.
I am currently dealing with this, I have had them build nests behind the visor, in the door and currently im not sure where they are coming from. It has been adventure over the years and my windows don't roll down so i have to open the door to try to let em out when they "appear" while im going down the road. My best wasp story is when I took the truck to pick up some garden soil, I made it to the nursery down the bumpy hill and to the soil mounds, the employee put 2 scoops of soil in my truck with a tractor (full bed 1972 f100) the first load shook the truck and a wasp was flying around in the cab, I opened the door and let it out and didn't think much of it. 2nd scoop and all quiet on the western front. I drove the 5 or so miles home, backed up the driveway which is a small incline. I unloaded the entire load jumping in and out of the bed numerous times, nothing eventful happened. I was not until I was finished and climbed in and decided to just take the truck out of gear and coast down to my parking spot. (the starter intermittently fails) something about taking it out of gear and rolling nice and easy sure woke em up, from behind the drivers side visor came about 7 or 8 right in my face, I could hear their wings on take off, I jumped out trying to steer and wave them out of my face and nearly hit the telephone pole at the bottom of the driveway. My truck is not pretty on the eyes and has its issues I have sort of considered the wasp scares over the years part of her mystique. Like your driving and there is always a little piece of you wondering when there gonna come outta nowhere lol.

Yeah.... I completely missed that....
I don't recommend this for everyone, but I learned that brake cleaner is a very effective tool against wasps. Most of the spray cans have a very tight stream that can be aimed quite well, even on wasps in flight. It sucks the moisture right out of them and they're dead before they hit the ground.
It's probably best to be careful just where it's pointed when you spray though. Not everything will behave well when sprayed with brake cleaner....
One thing that repels them (but doesn’t kill them) is Peppermint oil. We have a wrap around porch on our home & every year they like to build nests under the hand rail. Now, every spring I spray a mixture of pure peppermint oil diluted with water under the handrail around the whole porch. It really works, it soaks into the wood & keeps them away.
Peppermint oil will repel mice as well.

Brake clean is very effective, and very flammable! Beware open flame when using it,... or... grab a Bic and hit them mid flight and watch the ensuing "Down in flames" in a personal way lol.

Indeed, it also repels spiders. I use it on my entry way to keep them from webbing the front porch and it makes the whole entrance smell good as well!
