Stazworks beadlocks

So I was gonna get me a set of black KMC Rockstars in a 20"x 12" wide w/ 4 3/4" backspacing, but seems they are still unavailable- yet another thing on my "back ordered forever list". The wheels would be going on a 78 F-150 (coil spring front) 4x4 truck with 1 ton rears, and 42" x 15" wide swampers. In hindsite I should have used newer superduty rears, to use newer style wheels and disk brakes, but now I have to much $ in the (all new rebuilt) 1970's stuff. So anyway, looking around I can't find any other 12" wide wheels with that kind of back spacing or less, so I figured I'd check into Stazworks about something custom made. Pricing aside, has anyone dealt with them before? Any tid bits of info not on there website? Problems or Praises? Thanks

stazworks was a pleasure to work with. John is an upstanding honest individual who builds high quality products and keeps reasonable prices. i ordered a custom set of double beadlocks to go on my 72 early bronco. he has a lot of options and features he can implement on the wheels. i highly recommend him and his products as i have personally dealt with Stazworks.

now with that being said i want to point something out. Anytime you custom order something you cannot expect any sort of fast turn around, even if the builder guarantees it. i learned this a long time ago. it took 2 months to get my wheels when he originally quoted 3-4 weeks. i point blank commented to him "wow that would be great, seems too good to be true!". lol and it was. the thing that took the longest were the parts he had to order.

yes it took a while to get them and yes it was expensive, but i have enjoyed them so much i would go through Staz again without thinking twice. in fact i have thought about selling these (since they are very generic and would fit anything) and get a more custom built wheel to fit my style.

two thuimbs up with some patience and a fat wallet!

these things proved to be very hard to get a good pic of! here are a couple

Dang, my time is running out as it is, I'm almost done the rest of the truck and I hate to think I might miss almost a whole summer of wheeling just because I dont have wheels. In fact I don't have ANY wheels at all, so I may have to buy some stockers just to get it outta the garage. Then thats another problem, I can't have it sit in the yard if its not inspected and registered, (thanks to whiny rich new neighbors) and I cant get it inspected with no wheels. I already waited 3 1/2 months for the KMC's and am ready to give up. But I'm a little out of options anymore.
As for the beadlocks, how well do they balence...if at all? I've never had beadlocks before. Sounds like if I'm gonna do it I better do it quick. Fishman: Do you have the rock rings or the Cold role rings? Both pics look different, or is one the inside of rim and the other the outside? Does he powdercoat them in any colors/ color combos? What are they made of? steel or alum? They're website doesn't accually say. I'm hoping aluminum on account of the weight. I know, dumb questions, sorry.

i know its a long time but you will be happy. one thing on your side.... the terrible economy. people arent buying so he may not be as busy! give him a call, he is great guy to talk to. but beware, he hears the same story over and over so he wont be phased when you tell him you need to wheels to wheel it before summer is over.

you are planning on running these under a street truck? i dont know if they ill balance. my wheels are steel, all his are steel as far as i know, again call him up for details.

my pic shows the front and the back, it was really tough getting a good picture since its all black. yes he offers several diffent colors of powder coat and yes powder coat is standard. i had him add the rock rings which IMO are a must on BL's. i wouldnt waste my time with the cold role ring as it is just a ring of small diameter steel rod welded around the lip to strengthen it. i have beat the crap outta my rock rings which those cold role rings would not hold up to.

you are aware i bought double beadlocks... not standard beadlocks. i am not sure if he deals with standard beadlocks or not, just for clarification

Are these Staz wheels DOT approved?
A vehicle will fail an inspection of they are bolted up and used on the road.

Yes I did plan on keeping the truck street worthy. Safe to me and safe to the state mean two different things, for instance, I beleive that a fuel cell is safer than a stock steel tank, but the state does not allow them in cars due to the whole D.O.T. thing. Same goes for 5 pt harnesses- not allowed for street use. Are these wheels not D.O.T. approved for a real safety reason, or are they not approved because the owner cant afford the outrageusly priced testing and approval? I've got other more obvious things to worry about if and when I get stopped, I'm not worried about the wheels being legal. (ride height, smoked lenses, window tint, exhaust noise etc.) My inspection guy is cool too.
From what I saw on the site, it looks like he just does double bead locks only. How wide of a tire can you saftly fit on a 10" wide rim? This is why I'm having so much trouble with wheels, because I've been looking for a 12" rim so I can get the tires away from my radius arms. The tires I want are 42"x15"on a 20" rim.

you really need to just call and talk to him. the questions you are asking me/us cannot be accurately answered and i would hate to give out the wrong info. i promise he is cool to talk to.

in my own humble opinion he probably figures that any serious offroader who is willing to order custom double beadlocks is not in the least worried about streetability or the wheels being any sort of DOT approved. most law enforcement wont have any clue what kind of wheels you have and most cant distinguish b/t real beadlocks and those stupid fake street locks from M/T. i am not condoning illegally running beadlocks, but i dont see any problems running them.

i've seen people run 18" M/T's on a set of 10" wide wheels. it looks stupid but it works. you can get just about any wheel combo you can think of. he will be able to tell you better what combo works best for you. however it sounds like you are more interested in the wheel backspacing than the actual width.
