I have a 02 Ford Superduty 4x4 7.3L. I have 10" superlift suspension lift and 40" radial claws on 18x12 wheels. My cut out fender flares are being shipped now. I plan to run 20x14 fuel hostage wheels with 44" Pitbull Rockers.
The question is will the wheel bearing last with 14" wide wheels?
Anyone running 14" wide wheels and having any problems?
The truck is only driven a few miles on the weekends if Im off work and have time to drive it.
Those 44" Rockers are 19.5" wide. Are you certain that a 14" wide wheel is sufficient? Also, you may have rubbing issues with the front springs. What is the back-spacing on the 20X14 wheels?
Not sure on back spacing on the the fuel hostage 20x14 wheels will have to look it up. What size wheels are the white and black superduties in the pictures running?
My main concern was the wheel bearing and axle issues with the 14" wide wheels?
Pitbull tires spec sheets for the measurement of their tire tires show the 44x19.50x20 rocker measured with a 12" wheel as well as the 44x19.50x16.5 rocker.
I don't think that the extra 2" in wheel width is going to make a difference to the wheel bearings but those 44.1950.20 tires are going to make difference. What front axle do you have on the truck... Dana 50 or Dana 60?
Talked to 4ws.com they responded to an email sent to pitbull tires. Was told to run a 12-14" wide wheel nothing smaller. Also told me that pitbull tires were going up in price after Jan 1. Depending on how much they go up I might go with 44" tsl's.
I work in the wholesale tire industry and most of the manufacturer's have price increases on January 1st. The typical increase is anywhere from 4% to 8% depending on the economy. Gas prices are rising so I would expect something in the 6%-8% range.
Your Dana 60 can handle those tires but don't be surprised if you break components while off-roading. Also, you may want to re-gear the axles in the future.
Keep us updated on your project. I plan to install the Icon 7" lift kit, install the Bushwacker cut-out fender flares (purchased), and run MT 40X1350R18 tires (purchased) on 18X10 Ion Terminator wheels (purchased) on my 2005 F350. However, I need to get the Whipple supercharger installed first!
I know its not a ford and they are no quite as wide, but, I am running 20x12 Fuel Hostage wheels on my dodge, no issues yet, only a year into it though. Good choice in wheels by the way, black or Chrome? Tell me black......
Furian axles are already regeared to Yukon 4.56 gears. Pulls the 40's with all ease.
Newcomer yes I'm wanting the black 20x14's.
The only reason Im thinking of sticking with the 16.5x12 rims I have out in my shop is b/c the offroad shop that works on my truck in town told me 14" wide wheels were really bad on bearings. He they weren't even good for the rear axle. I tend to believe him. He been in the business a long time. They built one of the ultimate adventure trucks. It was on the cover of petersens offroad mag.
But I love the 20x14 fuel hostage black wheels. It would look killer with 44" rockers on them. But that's why the tread is 20x14 decision? I could go save up a couple weeks and get the 44x19.50x16.5's and use the 16.5 x12 wheels I have. Or buy a set of the 20x14 hostages and save for alil while and get the 44x19.50x20 rockers. Just not sure the 20's would look better but would take me longer to get the money up. I just bought my fiancé a ford escape limited V6 so that ate up some of my truck money.
