A Different Spring Question

I have read alot on the V-B spring swap and when I went looking on car-parts.com they were listing different variations of V codes as well as B codes. Some V codes were 2 leaf some 3 and others were 5. The same with the rear B code, some were 5 leaf and others were 7.

For those that have the V-B swap done, how many leafs do your springs have and what would the added leafs do if they are a specific load rating??

I would probably take the descriptions from them with a grain of salt. Most of the parts guys have no clue about them and you can't blame them much, even some of the ford parts guys are similar. I even asked around in some of the auto yards and had varying answers and just decided to go new. I couldn't bare the thought of going to the extent to swap springs and go with some ones used ones from the wreckers and not really knowing what your getting.
The V's I just put in had two. The B's have five. The old ones had two, and six. That is why with the new springs most go with the 4" block in the back to still get the same lift because the new springs have one less. Or they modify the new ones with some from the old spring pack to make up the difference. With the PSD you might want to go X and F codes.(little stiffer) Most of the extra leaves in the back might be overloads, or higher rated.
At work I just did a back glass into a 99 psd and it looked like he had a few inches of lift because he was easily clearing 35" tires. I looked and sure enough someone had taken a spring pack apart and cut them up to use as spacers(blocks) under the original springs to give it the lift.

Thanx for the reply Wallz

If I wanted to keep my original rear springs and just put a taller block in, what size would I need to match up to the W or X codes? Also, the Ford parts guys here aren't very useful when it comes to looking up cross model parts, so does anyone have a list of part numbers for the various rear blocks?

Thanx...

Here is Stewart"s original writeup on the part # for the blocks. I would probably try the tapered blocks in the back and see if your 35"s will clear. If not you could always find some spring takeoffs from a wrecker and cut out some leafs for another 1" or so if needed later. With the new b codes in the back with the tappered blocks I did gain 2", so with the original springs I would be looking closer to 2.5" Too bad you didn't live any closer because I could have given you my old springs to use to modify yours. As it is they are going to recycle tomorrow.

With the front they suggest not to use blocks, but I have seen some with the modified spring packs(adding some springs) to gain height. Good luck with your ford factory lifted X.
