I have an 01 Ex 4x4 limited V10 that I just purchased V codes for the front and B codes for the rear. The shop that is putting them on just called and said that the B codes were a 5 leaf setup and I have a 7 leaf setup on now. They say that if I change to the new B codes I will loose some of the stiffness for towing. I'm wondering since I am the second owner if someone has already changed out the rears to something else or are the 7 leaf packs standard. Please help.
You have the stock springs. The 7 leaf spring is standard equipment on 4X4 Excursions. The 7th leaf is actually an anti-windup leaf that just runs forward from the axle.
While it is true you will lose some initial stiffness with the B's, the overall capacity of the B's is higher. I think the person installing your springs is assuming that more leafs equals more capacity, which is not always the case.
I installed F's, not B's, so I can't speak from first hand experience. But most that have installed the B's experience about a 1/2" increase in vehicle height. You'll probably see about 1 3/4" increase in the front from the V's.
Well, I just got back from the shop and they weren't able to do the front springs saying that they would have to take the bumper and radiator apart to get to the front bolts. They didn't want to spend the time so now I'm headed to an off road shop. I should have done this in the first place.
Yep, the bumper needs to come off, but the radiator stays put. All you need to do is remove the lower support on each side and you can remove the front spring bolt.
WOW, what a difference in ride. I agree with others that have done this upgrade when they say" I should have done this long ago". It took the front end up 2" on Passenger front, 2 1/2" in driver front, and 1 1/2" in both rears. All wells measure within 1/8th of an inch from each other. I now have the ride I have been looking for. Now, are there any taller tires that I can get that will fit on the stock rims? I have 305/70/16's now. Thanks.
