Thanks for the good info Mad Porter, you obviously have alot of expereince with these motors. If I had known the Voodoo cam work I would have went that way. What should the timing be set at and is there a certain way to set it? I noticed that the timing seem to be searching. What about changing to a mass air flow instead of the speed density?
Thanks for the info.

Just my 2 cents worth I installed a comp.34-255-5 in my 88 460 engine which is speed density EFI. and have had excellent results, it runs better than the crane cam previously installed..I myself would highly recomend this cam..

Factory says 10 BTDC. Timing is set with the pip connector removed. I prefer 12 or 13 BTDC depending on altitude and mods. Remember to reconnect the pip connector. If the TFI module is on the dizzy it will be near. If on the drivers side fenderwell mounted in a heat sink look for the connector there.

JD,

I have a similar vehicle: 1994 F350, 460, E4OD 4x4, crewcab, MAF conversion, Baumann Trans controller, 4.10 gears, 32" tires and pull an 8,000 lb toyhauler. I live in Utah and pull hills up to about 9,000' elevation. Can you tell us how your truck has been performing? How does it do on the hills pulling your trailer? My truck does 35 mph up a steep grade @ 8,000', very hard to take! I also have the complete Banks powerpack kit - Headers and all.
Let us know if you are satisfied with the results.

Thanks,
Verle.

It has been so hot that I have not had a chance to get the toyhauler out, so I can't answer the trailer pulling question.

Scott at RHP suggested that I set the initial timing to 12* BTDC, but when I did there was a bog/lean condition in the midrange. I installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator set to 44 psi at WOT, set the timing to 12* and the truck runs super strong. I drove the truck a few hundred miles to make sure that it was solid and then had the truck dyno'd at 229 HP/331 TQ at the rear wheels. Not bad for a smog legal engine with 100K miles on it and 33" tires, etc. that was rated by Ford at 245 HP/400 TQ at the flywheel.

I'll post a report when it cools down some and I get the trailer out. By the way, I pull it from sea level to over 4,000 ft and then back again. I feel for you pulling the grades at 35 MPH; my truck does the same.

In the end I am happy with my Comp cam. The first couple weeks it seemed to be burning to much gas around town , short 2 to 5 minute drives. After a long highway drive it had good power and the fuel mileage seemed better. I pulled my trailer over the local mountain pass 5000lbs at 50 mph no problems. I could of pushed it harder but there was no need.

460 coming out of the mach shop friday

comp cam 34-255-5 will play w/valve timing b4 bumping ign timing self ported heads e3te small valves.upping cr 9.5 to 1 ! did not gut these heads like someone i saw on here .you only need huge ports if your staying above 6000 rpm must be careful on the flow pattern swirl not tumble! if you want torque follow buick 1970 gs stage 1 most torque of any muscle car from the fac. 510 ft,lb@2200 port velocity has a lot to with this as c/r coinside! sr/71 blackbird uses two buick engine to start the plane because of the torque

aft i get up running i will report back! tow rigg
