I have been reading the installation instructions for the Optimax
EGT gauge. The suggested probe position is from underneath the truck on the drivers side behind the front wheel an up into the exhaust manifold.
The EGT probe for the BANKS six gun tuner is positioned on the power elbow
at the back of the turbo.
Which one would give a true indication of the EGT or do both ?
or i spose you could add them up and divide by 2 to get an average.
Pre-turbo is the way to go, either in the manifold or the up-pipe.
A probe in the downpipe after the turbo is 100% useless. EGT's at that location are totally inaccurate.
So follow the instructions that came with the Optimax, and you'll be good to go. For installation in the manifold - just drill, tap, and install. It's super easy.
Exactly what Curtis said. Post turbo can be anywhere between 100-500 degrees cooler than what the EGT's actually are, the reason you watch the temp is to keep an eye on those aluminum pistons, so theoretically the closer you can get it to them the better, there are too many components that reduce that heat by the time it gets measured post turbo to get the most accurate reading.
