Last week while i was sitting around the house after surgery i had the idea to paint the grille on my truck so i took some super fine grit paper sanded down the took some acetone and wiped it down to clean it. Well between the the sanding and the acetone i saw some shiny places on the surface of the plastic and it looked like the "chrome" that is around the outside of the grille. Did these grilles get "chrome" dipped first and the painted. I actually went ahead and painted it satin black and then sprayed a high temp clear over top. But was just curious if this was normal.
Yep... some did, and some did not. I checked mine last year with some brake fluid, only to find that mine is one of the "did not get chromed" grills. You're a fortunate soul, my friend. I wish mine was like that, but I'll just get to wait until I can afford to go with billet inserts.
The reason i painted it initially was because i recently installed a black brushguard. And the grey didn't look soo hot behind it. I dont know if the chrome grille would look good behind the black brushguard. But i do like the billet inserts so i may find another grill to cut apart and put a billet insert in and keep mine
Huck,
Yes i came back on monday. It is a lil difficult getting back into the swing of things,
plus they changed my job title while i was out which really ticks me off. But ohh well.
I actually think i am going to pick up another grille somewhere when i decide to do the billet inserts and keep the one i have.
