Well I've only owned my truck about 3 months (Purchased used) so I guess I'll post a couple plans and say thanks to makomaker for starting this post as I'll take advantage of it and get some safety stuff for my truck.
Anyhow, as soon as I have enough $$ I plan on putting a on board computer in my truck for multiple reasons but I'll only mention the one that relates to safety.
I plan on having 4 small cams mounted in the truck so that if I get hit, some cop decides to be an ars or what ever the case may be I'll have it recorded so that I have the upper hand if stuff hits the fan.
When I was a teenager, my dad was doing the U-joints on his 77 T-bird. He put the car on ramps and removed the driveshaft (no E-brake set and no chocks). Can anyone guess what happened next. Long story short, after a trip to the emergency room for some broken ribs he learned a costly lesson. Always ensure you use shocks and set the brakes. I will go one further, I have never been a fan of ramps. I prefer jackstands.
When I was a teenager my mother broke down in Tennesse, she was drivng her 79 vette and blew the motor. My family and I loaded up the van and off we went to get her. We picked up a tow strap and a set of walkie talkies.
When we got to the car we used the jack to lift up one side of the vette so I could disconnect the drive shaft. I got the one side of the u joint disconnected, and knowing the car was in neutral, I turned the drive shaft to get to the other side..I rolled that damn car right on to my chest..
My arm was kind of stuck straight up and down like a jack, my chest had two nice little marks in it from where the exhaust clamp was resting..
People came over and did the best they could for me by trying to lift the car off of me. There was no chance of them doing so, but it was very nice of them to try. What was wild though, everytime someone got tired, and released the car, I felt the extra weight back on my chest..
It was a great day..
I have a Firefighter/Paramedic with me at ALL times......
Ha ha Joe, that's not fair...you have a head start on everyone else. How's it been going? You saw Rick mention a meeting soon, I hope your there, I'm bringing the adult beverages
