Safety First!!!!

You know, seeing that truck burnt to hell and back, I think it would be good to have a safety thread.

List things you have in your shop, truck, or things you do that keep you and your investment (truck, home, shop) safe from hazard and injury. A few stories would be good too.

I'll start it. Fire extinguisher! I have two halon FE's, one on shop wall, and one in tool box. That's an easy one.
And I'll go two, I have a 40 foot 20k oil field sling i use for pulling [whatever] out of mud hole....chains are dangerous!

Hey, Jay, sounds like oil field talk.

I always use safety glasses when grinding or chipping. I also keep the frige full of cold Miller Lite.

Jay, we been talking about another PAA meeting in the near future. If you still need the pinion seal changed, we can do it then. I will let you know the date when we decide. OVER.

I have a set of safety glass with built in reading / magnifiers.. My age outgrew my arms.

Spring loaded center punch for pulling old ladies out of their cars when they go canal fishing from the drivers seat.

2 pair leather gloves

Flourescent rain slicker as no one ever breaks down on a nice day.

Some of the above including heavy jumper cables.

Skip the logging chain and get a quality 3-4" 20' nylon strap... much nicer for towing out with, weighs less, and won't cause nearly as much damage if it pops loose or breaks.

When I was a teenager, my dad was doing the U-joints on his 77 T-bird. He put the car on ramps and removed the driveshaft (no E-brake set and no chocks). Can anyone guess what happened next. Long story short, after a trip to the emergency room for some broken ribs he learned a costly lesson. Always ensure you use shocks and set the brakes. I will go one further, I have never been a fan of ramps. I prefer jackstands.

I'd like to know where you got those. My arms seem to be shrinking as well.

Good idea Joe. What's their phone number

Edit: I just saw the thread you were referring to. How about common sense. That goes a long way in preventing these types of incidents.

I got mine from a local cabinet supply shop, and have the + 1.25. I did find these online at Bifocal Readers, Elvex Eyewear; Safety Glasses,

After sending a j hook through my front grill, I now only have a 4" strap in my truck with no metal ends. All connections are made at MY truck with with oversized D hooks. That way, if something breaks, it goes away from my truck. (yes it will eventually hit something). My uncle lost a good friend from a strap hitting him in the head after the strap broke.
