I have a 94 bronco with the 302.I have all stock components. My problem is when I hit the smallest bump the whole truck shudders, and Im not talking a little one either.Im talking tires almost leave the road type stuff, and god forbid you have to cross railroad tracks of go down a dirt road.I have changed the shocks and springs, and it hasnt helped at all.Im running 32x11.50x15 at thier suggested air rating.I have had them all ballanced and rotated.Nothing I can think of seems to help.Im use to the stiff ride of a truck and I knew the broncos would be stiffer because they dont have the gap between the bed and cab to flex but this is crazy. My 89 F150 is like a caddie by comparison.
my bronco rides harder than my highboy, but it sounds really bad in your case. I would make sure that all of the bushings in the front are in good shape cause if i understand you right, it sounds like something is binding and then suddenly freeing up. watch the suspention while somebody bounces up and down on the bumper, watch for improper movement and listen for popping.
When you changes the springs and stuff, did you replace with the same size on there, or did you make sure it was OEM? The reason I ask is I used to have a 86, and the owner before me had put 3/4 tone springs in the front and it was the roughest ride ever. Railroad tracks would make the brand new CD player skip even if I just creeped over them. To give perspective, I put the CD player in a 89 civic and it didn't bolt in, on the way to get the kit for it, I hit the same railroad tracks at over 30mph and the cd player flopped around and never skipped a beat.
I didnt do it myself I just told them to put the stock stuff on.That sound like what mine is doing.Even creeping over railroad tracks is bone jarring.I will look into it and let you know.Thanks.
Front and rear sway bars? Are the bushings good and the end links unbent? I was actually given the wrong length end links for the rear bar once. They worked but drew the sway bar up so tight (links were too short) that it couldn't flex properly. Made the thing feel like a stagecoach going across a cornfield.
Do you have the quad shock option up front? I only ask because my 92 did and I found that leaving the auxilliary shocks (front two of the four) off helped the ride immensely in on-road and non-towing situations. It should be a last resort effort but it is an option.
Yeah I have the 4 shocks up front.I havent checked the sway bars.Alll the bushings look ok and I greased everything up.Would you be able to see it in the chamber of the wheels if the sway bar was too short? The front wheels look as if they have alot of positive chamber on them.
Thats how the 86 looked, something like \ / ? Mine was caused from the icorrect springs being used to "lift it". If you took it to a shop, they may have just replaced what was there without looking up to see if it was supposed to be the right ones. That's one reason it's sometimes better to do it urself.
