Rear Window Not Working

My rear window works fine from switch on dash, but when I use the key in tailgate, it does not work. I can hear a switch click in both directions when turning the key in tailgate, but window does not move. Should I start at the switch in tailgate or somewher else to try & figure this out.

ITS IN THE GATE ALLWAYS IN THE GATE

put the window down and open the gate on the drivers side gate latch click it over so it thinks its up and latched pull off the rug if you have one pull off the metal panel to gain access your window will go up/out of the gate with the dash switch so be careful IT NEEDS TO BE HELD ANS SURPORTED by you or a table /trash can with something over it not to scrape or break the glass now you can get to the back of the gate switch lock and further in behind that is the latch safety switch that you have tricked out they are the most likely the problem in the middle of the gate under the metal is a 2 prong jack /connector to the motor that can get dirty/rotted connections at times it might be worth checking that out while your in there if this is bad the motor won't work at all reversing the polarity of these two wires makes the motor run up/down also look at the wire harness running from the left taillight area into the gate for damage good luck and watch out for the glass when its " out of gate"

Just to be certain... Does the truck have an electronically shifted transfer case or power door locks? Do they work? I only ask because there are TWO power feeds for the tailgate glass. CB#12 feeds the keyswitch and CB#14 feeds the dashboard switch. If the t-case shifts and the power door locks work (the OTHER devices on the same circuit) then continue with j.e.'s recommendations.

Well I tried everything I could think of.
The Latch safety tested fine, Unplugged, window would not work from dash. Plugged in it worked from dash.
The plug in center of tailgate, has two wires that go to window motor from the key switch, one is hot when the dash switch is used, the other....I don't know what is for.
Both plugs look almost new. No corosion to speak of.
As far as the key switch, I think I figured it out. I think I should have a hot lead coming into the key switch, and I don't. One of those wires should be constant power, so that when the key switch is used, power flows through the switch to the motor. For some reason I do not have any power to that switch. I traced back to the four wire plug under truck, just in front of the rear bumper, and no constant power there either. As for the four wires coming back to tailgate:
1. Power from dash switch
2.power for rear window defog
3. One going back to dash switch from safety latch switch
4. one should be constant power to key switch
btw, power door locks, electric trans case, power lumbar seats all work fine.
If you guys think I am on the right track, then why don't I have power to key switch?
If I am not seeing this the right way please let me know what I am doing wrong.
This is driving me crazy. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Check my gallery. I have the wiring diagram for the tailgate in there for 80-86 Broncos. May help. It does also show 2 different fuses depending on which switch you are trying to use. I know yours is a 95 but.....should be pretty close. Fuse numbers may be off.

I had this problem with my 91 Bronco. Believe it or not the switch in the dash is a 5 prong switch which means that the dash switch also controls the key switch in the back. I replaced my dash switch and that solved the problem in the back and it still worked in the front. Just replace the dash switch.

P.S. I rewired the entire tailgate in my Bronco. Nothing worked until I changed that switch. I hope that helps all of you.

Mine just quit working. Think I'll consider changing the dash switch and doing some research inside the gate.

86 Rear Window Problem

I know that this an old post, but I ran into a similar problem. I have power coming from the fuse all the way back to the tailgate for the constant key switch power. I also have power back to the tailgate in both modes when operating the dash switch. I am checking the voltage at the plug behind the driver side tail light. I know the motor works, because the previous owner has wires hanging out of the tailgate that are spliced in the two wires that power the motor for connecting a jumper pack to it to operate the window. So I know my dash switch is ok, I know the wiring back to the plug is ok. I disconnected the safety switch connector and jumped it together to bypass the switch, still nothing. The only thing that it could be is the tailgate switch assembly itself. Has anyone had to replace this and how much was it? Thanks!

I've been looking around for the tailgate key switch... no luck. I think it might be something you'll have to order from Ford. Or if worse comes to worse, you could get one from a junkyard. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything. As far as actually replacing it, not too bad. I'm sure you've had the tailgate apart by now. The easiest way I've found is to remove the glass completely to avoid damaging it. There will be a little "U" clip holding the switch to the lock core. Pop off that clip and the switch should slide up off the lock core. That should be it. If you have any more questions just let me know. I'll keep looking for that switch.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to get the switch out. I was able to get it out without removing the window, but it does need to be supported. The hardest part was unplugging the connector for the safety switch! I will do some calling around to the local boneyards tomorrow. Thanks for the info, I will let you know if I find anything either.

One thing to check is the wire on the left side of the tailgate. It comes out of the body, is exposed, and then goes into the left side of the gate.

My front switch worked, but the tailgate switch didn't. I finally cut that wire open and found out that it had completely corroded in half inside. Cleaned it up, spliced some new wire in, and my tailgate switch has worked ever since.
