Compiled some 78 Explorer pics

No, I don't have the stripes made yet because I don't have the truck painted yet. There's a 78 explorer that just hit the junk yard in Baton Rouge that still has the stripes. I was just there last weekend and could have got measurements. If I go back this weekend, I will try to get the measurements. If you want, I can get you the name and number of the shop that said they could do my stripes. hello, that would be great if you could get the measurments for me, i would really aperciate it, and please send me the name and number to the shop your gona use, this way i'll get the measurments and give them a call to have them made up,once again thanks for your help, this is such a great and helpful forum, thanks joe

no, i'm sorry my truck is a 78 same one as in the first picture on this thread, it's burgendy with tangirene and creame stripes,so let me know if you can get the measurments for the stripes please would be greatly appreciated, also if you could let me know the name and number to the shop your gona use so i call get in touch with them, thanks again for any help you can give, thanks joe

I sent him pics a while back showing Brent what I wanted. I think Brent's program has the measurements in it or something. He never said he would need measurements.

I got an email from Brent. He says he needs measurements. I hope the Explorer is still in the junkyard this weekend so I can get measurements. I don't recall the hood having the stripe on the truck. In fact, I don't think the original hood was on the truck. I think an old rusty hood was on the truck. Hope it's still there.
Question: Of all the Explorer pics I found, I could not find a picture of a bright dark blue poly Explorer. Anybody know what color stripes would go on this truck?

1978 Explorer w/ the Bright Dark Blue Metallic would receive the chamois/orange stripes.

I don't mean to hijack, but I have a 76 Jade Green Explorer. It has been painted before and doesn't have the stripes. Did they all have stripes on the sides and hood or was it optional? I believe mine would have white ones. If I paint it blue, what color would they be? Did the Explorer come with the stripes and the side trim both? When I painted it I'm not sure if I'm going to put the stripes on it or not, I can't decide.

The Explorer stripes were standard on all Explorers begining 1973 through 1985. There are some instances where the stripes had a delete option. This was only done for deluxe tu-tone paint schemes or for the optional bodyside protection moulding on certain years.
Each year except 1973-1974 had their own unique stripe and pattern, and no two years were exactly the same. They were limited editions and only made a few months each year after all. The normal option rules don't usually apply to Explorers, they had their own.

Thanks. I know the hood was supposed to have stripes... but the Explorer at the junkyard does not have the original hood on it.... so even though I can get measurements for the stripes on the side of the truck, I can't get measurements for the hood.

Actually, the '73 and '74 had different stripes even though they were very similar. The
'73 had two stripes, one wide (bottom) and one narrow (on top) running along the lower part of the body up over the wheel wells from front bumper to rear bumper.
The '74 stripe also ran along the lower body but consisted of three stripes. One wide one (again the bottom stripe) and two narrow stripes in the middle and top position.
