What is better, flushing the fluid or just draining it? One mechanic told me never to flush it, because it just causes the chucks of metal and other things to circulate throught the entire system and possibly stick to the interior components.
I would say that depends on the mileage on the transmission and how often it has been serviced. If it has 100,000 mi. and has never been touched, I would say you might just be better off leaving it alone, although you can count on a rebuild. If it has at least been drained regularly or within the last 25 - 50,000 I would say you are ok. I would say the risk is worth it considering the vast improvement in life expectancy if flushed. Just my opinion.

Most flushes are really just a fluid exchange. That's OK in my book, you really don't want to use a flush chemical. It can't dislodge anything more than regular operation will, because the fluid flows the same way during the exchange that it does during normal operation.
I think the full exchange is a little bit better than draining hte pan and torque converter. If you only drain the pan the exchange is MUCH better.
