I need to know-I have a 1977 F250 2wd 400ci AT-the motor perches are gone what year/model will interchange? I have motor perches from 1977 F250 4X4 that do not look like they will fit?? (I do not mean motor mounts-bolt on block) Thank you to anyonethat has some info
2WD & 4WD engine supports are different as you found out.
If you're putting in an engine in the 1977 F250 2wd, all [except 460 4v] engine supports from 1977/79 trucks will fit.
Honestly I don't know what mounts will work on a 400 but they are DEFINITELY NOT all the same except the 460. the Windsor's (302/351) have VERY diferent frame mounts/perches than the FE's (360/390). and the 460 is VERY different from either of these. Someone who has a 2WD with a 400 please tell this guy what he needs befor he gets a bunch that wont work.
There are 3 motor perches.
Set one fits straight 6 and all FE's.
Set 2 will fit 289,302, 351W, 351C, 351M and 400.
Set 3 fits 429 and 460.
See my gallery for pictures of the different perches.
The motor perches will interchange from 65 until 79 all F100 through F250 as long as they are 2 wheel drive.

No 302 in 4WD pickups, and a 302 is not a Windsor engine, either. No 351W in 1973/79 F-series.
460 has their own engine support/mounts.
1977/79 F250 4x4 engine mounts are the same, whether it be the 6-cyl 300 or the 351M/400. Just the mounts are different. No FEs after 1976, so that's irrelevant.
I am typing this information straight from the parts catalog.
Chad,
You're very correct about those engines not being available in those trucks.
However, the fact remains whether a 351W was ever offered or not in a 73 to 79 pick up is beside the point. The point is you can still bolt a 351 W or 351 C for that matter directly in to a 73 to 79 2 wheel drive truck.
The same can be said for the 429. It was never offered in trucks. How ever...it is a direct bolt in using 460 perches.
The bottom line is this....
There were 3 sets of perches used from 65 to 79 in 2 wheel drive trucks.
If you use one of those 3 sets you can bolt in any engine Ford made from an inline 240 up to a 460 excluding flat heads, Y blocks, and any of the new engines like that V6 or V10.
Guess how I know.
