However, with that said... if I was to do it over again, I would install the Magenefine filter on the return hose (small diameter hose that conencts to the p/s resorvoir tank). The flow is from the pump to the tank, so install the filter in the right direction). This will give you more fluid flow and filtering capacity. I would buy 2" of tubing and just add it to the length already there. This way, if you had to remove the filter, you still have your stock hose and can just reconnect it to the resorvoir tank.
The filter is high-quality and built very well. There is a pressure relief valve built into it, so even if the filter becomes clogged, you will never loose p/s fluid flow.
If Ford approves this filter for their rebuilt tranny's... then it is good enough for me on my p/s system.
Beach, any chance you could post a pic of the return hose that you're talking about? Is it one of the 3 hoses in the pic you posted earlier? thanks

Yep... it is the other "smaller hose" (3/8").
There are two small hoses and 1 large hose (at least on my 2003). It is the small hose from down below which is the "return line" that you add the filter to.
On my 05 s.d. it's the top curved 3/8 " hose from the hydroboost going to the reservoir. Just add a 2 or 3 " piece of hose to the hydroboost unit and do not cut the factory hose. That way if any warranty issues should come up u can go back to stock without buying a new hose.
Here is an interesting TSB that I just found (old, but worth while) about adding an in-line filter to the hydra-boost P/S line. Not sure what kind of filter it is or if it is the same as I used... but I guess I made a good choice for preventative maintanence.
2003-07 trucks grabbing brakes, pedal kickback:
This may be caused by power steering fluid contamination in the hydroboost system. There is a procedure for installing a temporary filter between the power steering pump and cooler to clean the system. After the cleaning procedure is complete and no brake grabbing or excessive steering effort is felt, remove and discard the filter. If brake grabbing continues, replace the hydroboost unit. I'm glad you drug this thread up. I had never seen that TSB Beach posted before and what issues the filter helps.
Thanks clane.
What... your not reading every post I make when I make it???
Every Spring, when the weather starts to get warm (for my sake), I suck out the P/S resorvoir of all fluid, change the in-line Magnafine filter and replace with new Mercon V fluid (single spec fluid only - I never use or recommend multi-spec fluids). No fluid can be two specs at one time... it can be a compromise, but I want no compromises... just Mercon V only!!!
At first, I flushed my entire P/S fluid system... so I started with clean fresh fluid... and then just do the once a year, one quart procedure from then on.
Once of the best mods/filters money can buy... and at less than $20.00/ea... why not do it???
What's next... maybe I should add one to my window-washer fluid line (ha, ha)... nothing like pure clean fluid for my windshield!!!!

LOL--no Jeff. I used to work for a living and now I have no life so I'm catching up.
And FWIW--I've seen more than one issue with hard powersteering effort and/or grabbing brakes and never seen that filter referenced except as an added course of maintenance. It will be going in my truck tomorrow.

There you go... a new mod for the truck for less than $20.00.
Glad I can help... now I am wondering how many of my posts you have not read since last year?????
anyone in the colder parts of the world ever run into issues with these filters like him?
i must say, that has me leaning towards removing the filter come october or so,and putting it back in come march, just to play it safe.
it doesn't take long to pooch a ps pump when she looses her juice.
