[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 11:02 PM (EST)]Hi All
I have a 96 F-150 4X4 with the 5.0 engine and the door sticker has a "U" in the trans code. A search shows that this is the 4R70W transmission and I have found a number of other posts that also mention the AOD/E. Are these just two names for the same transmission?
I am getting a shuddering around 40-45 mph and I have heard that re-tightening the valve body bolts might help. Since I need to drop the pan, I will need a new gasket and filter and I want to make sure I get the right parts.
The 4R70W and the AODE are different but not by much. The 4R70W has a wider gear range (hence the W) and also a different output shaft. Other than that they are pretty much the same thing.
The last AODE was built in 1995. They are all 4R70W now, even in cars. And as was mentioned above they are different transmissions, not just different names.
Thank you all very much for your responses! I just hate having to buy parts from the dealer (usually WAY over priced), but it doesn't look like I've got a choice.
Thanks FatF150, that is welcome information! I pass by an AutoZone on my way back home from work, I think I'll stop and see if they might have something that fits.
