hi guys just bought a 2001 ex. with 105000 miles pulled my camper to the mountains and back last weekend every thing great. This week wife said it was shifting funny some times, took it for a run tonight and it was fine at first then on the way back I had to back out of a drive and when i dropped it back into drive it was very sluggish. messed around with it a little and found if i pulled it down into first and shifted up thought the gears it was fine. some times it would down shift at stops and take off normal other times seemed like it was stuck in drive. also when i stopped at a light it had a funny vibration like it was trying to down shift but could not. any ideas what could be wrong. IT has a v-10 motor not sure what trans
Sounds pretty familiar to me. I recently had my transmission replaced on my '03 Ex with 82,000 miles, just 7,000 miles out of the extended warrenty (of course).
So, we recently took a trip from FL to TN, no problems on the way, but as soon as we arrived in TN, the transmission temp went up. So I took it into the local Ford dealership in TN who checked it out and found a valve stuck. Replaced the valve under the 100,000 mile warranty on the "reman" transmission I bought 6,000 miles ago.
Two days later, same problem: transmission temp went way up, started to shift funny and sluggish, started to slip. When I put her in gear, you could definatly hear a grinding noise.
Brought her back to the Ford dealership again: transmission completely ruined and irrepairable. Got stuck in TN over the Easter Weekend for a few more days while Ford replaced my first reman. transmission with a new one... fortunately with no cost to me!
Truck runs great ever since...
So maybe you are getting close to a transmission job here... I hope the best for you!
