Ok guys I just bought a 1983 F-150 4x4 in decent shape with a 300 in it, and a 4 speed. My mechanic says it needs a new exhaust manifold, and that the gasket was in need of replacing, but the intake and exhaust come off at the same time. So I want to upgrade to a 4bbl any way, and I might as well get EFI manifolds while I'm at it. Do you guys forsee any objections or things to be cautious about, any problems with 4bbl intake, and EFI manifolds? Are there any other intakes besides Clifford and Offenhauser, or are those the best ones?
They were done several months apart, so there are steps you definitely can leave out.
There are a large number of intakes available for the 300, but the Clifford and Offenhauser are the only ones still in production. As with any retrofitting, as Harte3 said, all will require modifications, tuning, etc. Which I'm still in the middle of myself.
The throttle linkage is probably the most complicated part of the project; if you're creative it's not a big deal. I used headers, not EFI manifolds. They were a pain to get in there on my '79. I had to change to a mini-starter, re-route the transmission lines and a brake line, and shave the alternator bracket. I had a shop do my exhaust.
