I was cruising the classified section for a used (and thus cheap) type stereo for my 69 f250, and i couldnt find one. Maybe i got my search bits wrong...you guys, help a brutha out. I gots no tunes, and that just makes me sad. I was wondering if you guys knew of anyone who might be willing to part with their music maker on the cheap?
If you're looking for a factory stereo, they were only installed in the 1971 and 1972 trucks. So try a search for them. However, they are expencive, and rare.
If you are looking for a aftermarket stereo, most any, "**** type" stereo will work.
i think in one of my parts boxes i still have my old radio, a kraco one. i'll have to check tomorrow though to verify if i still got it. bolts in and works like a champ, you'll have to hook up an antenna and wire to it. right now i am running a pioneer deck with cd player and with ipod hooked up to it in the glove box. i can change artists and songs with my handy remote! thank god for that, otherwise i'd have to lean forward and press the button on the unit, cant have that!

I always thought stereo remotes were pretty dumb till I got my '69, man thats a long reach to change channels. Probably only 3 or 4 channels when it was new so you didn't change often enough for it to matter how long the reach was.lol. Mike

I would love to have something like that eventually, but right now im just looking for a CHEAP something so i can have some tunes. I was thinking about goin for that RetroSound unit and then hooking up my iPod in a trick little setup involving the ashtray. Ill post more on that once i finish it. But if you are willing to part with your old stereo for not a whole lot of cashish i would love to take it off your hands.

That was the first thing that ran thru my mind when i first sat in my truck. "Jesus, thats gonna be a pain in the *** to change the freaking station....."

Hm. My dash sure as hell looks like it came with a stereo originally. any chance myne could be special?
If i could figure out how to post pix, i would show you. The shape of the dash and the hole in it (with the wires poking out) both look like they were designed for a stereo, not cut in afterward. not to mention the antenna on my hood. i mean, im fully prepared to believe you guys when you say that 69's didn't come with factory tunes, i'm just saying that mine looks like it did. Looking for answers, not randomly regurgitated facts and figures telling me how wrong i am.
Way to be specific and helpful, guys. In the future, when i mention "putting a stereo in my truck" can we please assume that i mean "a radio head unit capable of producing music for the listening pleasure of the driver and/or passengers of said truck"? I had thought that with the combined wisdom and experience available on this forum, that such nitpicking would have at least been followed by a correction or explanation. Thank you, dbdbb and numberdummy, and i mean that sincerely, for explaining what those guys were talking about.
I bought a 1968 F250 Ranger AND a 1971 Ranger XLT brand new.
The 1971 had the AM/FM radio.
The factory antenna is mounted on the right side cowl panel.
If you don't choose to believe what I type...that's your perogative!
There were NO factory AM/FM radios available for F100/350's until 1971 PERIOD!
yeah, i missed part of what you had originally posted. my browser effed up and actually edited (or something) out a couple of lines. Like the whole bottom half of it. no need to be rude, dude. besides, did you read what got posted before your last post? i THANKED YOU. so calm down, dawg. No need to be so sensitive. I KNOW that you were a parts man. Thats why i respect your answers......dude i wasnt even talking about you.
How difficult is it to set up a stereo radio in one of these? i figure the hardest part is going to be finding mounting points for the extra speakers. i found a plastic headliner that comes with speakers, but for some reason the thought of installing a plastic headliner in my truck doesnt sit well with me. You guys have any favorite mounting points?
