I replaced mine after one side just would not want to unlock. No vacuum leaks for me. I performed the maintenance per Guzzle's page and still no luck. I figured that I can get out and lock the hubs if I need 4WD.
The esof are not that bad.. But for a replacement, Warren is the way to go..I believe that when I priced one.. It was enough for me to go out and price the warns for two..
Alex, that is what I planned to do (w/ the help of the excellent instructions on Guzzle's website), but mine were too far gone. I think the wheel bearings had been replaced and the big yellow o-ring was not installed, so water and dirt had worked their way in. If yours are working or not too bad, routine maintenance should keep the stock ones working. Just keep in mind that they will reruire maintenance; seals, lubrication, vacum lines, etc. As with any other routine maintenance after the first time or two it is much easier.
I am going to upgrade my stock"auto" hubs to the warn manuals hubs. What is the difference between thier normal and premieum hubs other than price? Where does the fte club recommend i buy them from? And where is everyone blocking off thier vacum source? I am sick in tired of the stock hubs(when your in the auto pos. 2wd one minute they are free next minute one or both has locked) oh...one other question, i assume its just a matter of removing retaing ring to change hub and blocking off vacum source for this upgrade?
Just remember if you do go with the warns make sure you find the source of the vacuum leak first. You would not want to have a vacuum leak in the hub and put in Warn hubs because moisture could still get in. I have the Warn Premium hubs and love them and they were very easy to install.
Don't know if you have a dual rear wheel or not, I do, I called Warn because the parts stores had a note "not for drw", Warn said this is because of the spacer on the front wheel, and that they might not fit. Well I took the chance and they fit fine (other than having to reach in a little ways to turn them. I did however grind off a slight casting burr around the inside of that spacer and repaint it, just in case. I highly recommend the swap.
I did the same thing with my dually and worked great. I only have the warn standard hubs because mine are protected inside the wheel spacer and not used for hard 4 wheeling. I also have never had a problem on any of my 4x4's with warn hubs. I have a trail jeep and an off road race truck both with warn premiums on them no issues so far. If I do have an issue they are 10 minutes from my house to go get a new set.
