Do you have a Reese style hitch? You should be ok with a pretty big trailer as long as it has brakes and you load it without too much tounge weight. I think youd be fine towing 5-6k lbs or so. The towing section may be of more help https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum68/
I'm thinking the same thing, holy cow a ranger has more gvwr than his half ton. check on your door sticker what your gvw is, not what your registration says
A friend of mine went to the quarry in his 1/2 ton dodge (96 or so), when he pulled on the scales they refused to load him and told him he was over weight with just his toolbox in the back. They go by the registration though
anyone happen to know how much an '81 F100 can tow?
300-6, C6, 9"...4700lbs GVWR (5 on 4.5" BP)
std cab, long bed, 133" WB
I have the same truck and i tow around 2,000bls and that's just 2" ball on the bumper you can tow more i have heard of people towing up to 4,000lbs i dont think i would.
so the GVRW would mean i can put 1000-1500lbs in the bed? that sounds about right.
i plan to put an aux trans cooler, reese hitch, 3.25-3.50 gear in the axle, and napa prem rotors with EBC pads, and 235/75r15, 255/70r15, or 245/75r16 tires.
was also planning on putting heavier springs all the way around the truck and an elec trailor brake setup.
check the trailer and towing fourms in this site.they might help.plus if you have your owners manual it should have what you can tow with that pick.it all depends on engine, trans, rearend, and suspension on the truck, for what you can tow.don't forget the tounge weight of the trailer will subtract from the weight of your box payload. good luck
