interchangable gear box
i have a 1986 ranger with a 2.3 5spd 2wd. i need to replace the gear box and would like to know what years and models i can pull this from. any help will be great.

If you are referring to the transmission, than you can look for any 1st gen Ranger '83-'87 with the 5 spd. If you are referring to the steering gearbox, I can't help you with that one.

sorry i wasnt clear about my post. the steering box is the one im referring to. i didnt think about a tranny being consider a gear box but i guess if i thought about it, its a box with lots of gear, lol. i learned something new today.

If you have a manual/non power steering gearbox:
F-150, 1980 -1990 ( need to change pitman arm).
BroncoII, 1983 - 1990
Ranger, 1983 - 1997.
For a power steering gearbox:
F-150, 1980 - 1996 (change pitman arm)
BroncoII, 1983 - 1990
Explorer, 1991 - 1996
Ranger, 1983 - 1997

F-150, 1980 - 1996 (change pitman arm)
