Never used por 15 but heard its good stuff, brush it on the frame and it smooths itself out. WHen you get that 460 and zf working and you think its too much for your truck I'll trade you for my 351/c6...even up!!

Sounds like you are doing a lot of the same things I am doing to mine. I suggest putting on a set of headers on when you install the exhaust. I have a set of headman headers and with the power boost I also gained 2 MPG. Give or take a few tenths depending on wind direction and how steep the road is

Just so you know, the ZF 5-speed does not have granny low like your T-18. It is an overdrive, but no granny. You could improvise by shifting to low range in your transfer case when you need to, but it is kind of a pain to have to do that.

Since he is getting a zf that goes to a gas engine, he will probably end up with the 5.72 1st gear. While it's not as low as the older 4 speeds(did they have a low 6 1st gear?) it's close. Some of the diesel zf's had a high "4ish" 1st gear.

I swapped a 302efi for a 460efi in my 89 f-250, it has a ZF5spd. and moves right along in all gears( 5.72 OD with 3.55 originally 4.88 gears) also put a 6 inch lift, swaped the IFS front for a HPdana 44, and a pair of sterling 10.25 in the back for the 6 wheel drive

I have an 89 Super Duty with a ZF. It is my mechanic's truck with welder, compressor, crane and tools on it. It had 5.13 gears when I bought it. I think my Dad's old Farmall tractor would have outrun it. I swapped in a set of 4.10's, so it runs down the road fine, but is gutless in soft or rough ground. My ZF seems fast in both low and reverse. By the way, it is the 7.3 non-turbo diesel.

I have access to a T-18 from a diesel, but I hate to lose my over drive. This thing uses enough fuel as it is.

yea im definately puttin hedman headders on it...i have true duals as it is so ill make it hook up nicely. i have a pipe machine at my dads auto repair shop so it'll have a good deep rumble when its done. i also bought myself a new years present. i dont know if i told you but i bought a Dana 70 for the rear...its a monster with 4.10 gears in it. i plan to rebuild that completely, get traction bars, that ZF5, get all the body work done, get a dana 60 front, and get all the paint and body work done. I want to make my truck one crazy strong SOB! I want to pull everyone around backwards...heres how its looking so far

Engine Mounts

I read all the way through this post and no one has addressed engine mount changes required. Have you addressed what will be required regarding mounts?

I agree with 86 big red. I rebuilt my 92 F250, 460 and and had about $1500.00 in the motor and did all but the machine work myself. Paid my machine guy $500.00 and about $1000.00 in internals. Another $2200.00 in the SFI fuel injection set up. There are more parts out there for 351 performance compaired to a FI 385 series motor build.
