OK. So I was gonna buy another truck and after shopping around I decided that I don't really want to downsize to a F150. I have a F250 4x4 with a 5.4 and i got metal shavings in the oil and what sounds like an exhaust leak.I have had it to 3 different shops including the local ford dealership and noone can find anything. I love my truck so I'm looking at a motor swap. My truck is a 04, what year motors will be compatable? Thanks.
If you plan on keeping the truck, then I would do one of the following:
1. Contact FTE Parts Guy and inquire about a new OEM engine (estimated cost unknown). This will be an easy install as you will only need to transfer select parts from your current engine and will have a full factory warranty.
3. Get a new short block from FTE Parts Guy (estimated cost $1,022.77) which should be completely assembled and have the heads rebuilt by a local engine re-builder. New heads are also available from FTE Parts Guy (estimated cost $835.55).
Good advice Andrew, esp Item 3. He can have the heads worked over locally AND maybe even include a nice port and polish and still be out the door at a lot less dime than even the remanufactured engine with a performance enhancement as a bonus.
