I just bought my 2005 EX in December. The rear hatch doesn't like to stay up when it is cold and now I just realized that the rear hatch also won't lock. When you press the lock button or the remote lock all doors lock but the hatch....Any Ideas??
I had to buy a new latch from FTEPartsguy. I cleaned the old one, but the pin that slides back and forth to lock and unlock the latch was loose and binding in the slot. Worked it over for awhile, but it was fruitless.
You will want to remove the inside plastic trim on the door and then look at the latching mechanism. They usually get dusty in there and the actuator will not allow to lock. Spraying liberally with a lubricant to get things moving and then locking and unlocking several times should free things up. I have had to spray mine twice now in the year that I have had it.
Two bolts in the pull down handle and then clips. Once the bolts are out, pull straight away from the door.
FYI- In cold temps with non-working struts, glass will break. We just had to replace glass and struts. We have 4x4 but replaced with 2 wheel. HUGE improvement from even before struts went bad. I love my kids, I love my kids, I love my kids who let the hatch slam shut on a day of high temp in low teens. In AK the back glass with defrost/tint runs over $900 to buy and install. I love my kids
