My 04 has a persistent rattle coming from the rear hatch area. My impression is that the post for the hatch door is out of alignment. Meaning the hatch when closed, is not pulled into the cabin far enough or the hatch lock is rattling around the post. I guess that would mean either the hatch lock is faulty or the hatch door itself is moving excessively. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!
This is a chronic problem for older Escapes. Try wrapping several layers of electrical tape around the post to the hatch latch and see if the noise disappears.
Is it that the post is too small or the hatch lock doesn't close tight enough around post. The electrical tape sounds like a good start and possibly the end all fix. Has anyone else had this problem and what did ya do to fix it? Does Ford have a fix for this or......? Thanks for any help offered
I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid that makes a rattle noise in the hatch when driving. The service department greased the side guides and this lower the noise, but has since returned and then disappeared after a long trip. I expect it to come back. I read somewhere, before buying, that noises were common in the rear. Iam still going to get it fixed! Good luck on your problem.
