Question Dually Axle vs Single Rear Wheel Axle

Hello, Is there difference between a dually and single rear wheel axle? I've seen SRW to Dually conversion kits (adapter or spacer) but wanted to know if the original ford dually axle is the same as SRW axle with the factory adaptors or is the dually axle a totally different axle? Also, same question for the front axle.

Thanks
James

They are different as I know, but I could be wrong.
Dually is a big more heavy duty.
*shrugs*

They are both 10.25 full floaters though.

The dualy might be the same mainly, with different axle shafts and outer hubs/brakes.

The rear axle is different. The DRW axle wider so that the bearings are centered in the pair of tires.

If you use adapters, the bearing load will be outside the bearings. The outside bearing will take all of the weight, and the inside bearing will be actually loaded in a reverse direction. You will have bearing problems.

The front axle is the same, but the hub is different. The rotor doesn't bolt on with the wheel; instead it has separate bolts for just the rotor farther back. There isn't a problem with using an adapter up front, but the price of the right hub is about the same.

Thier is about 90,000miles on my f250 with the hub extentions and the bearings looked bran new when I repacked the front bearings. yes the loading will be diffent but immidiate failure I do not believe. long term 150,000miles later, yes possibly. At this point when I did my rrear brakes last year the bearings felt great and the seals where not leaking.....
I've hauled 6000lbs+ of river wash crushed rock many times and no problems.

I just did a conversion from dually to SRW a couple months ago on mine. The rear dually axle is 4" wider than the SRW overall. When I had regular wheels on the dually axle they stuck out just a little past the edge of the bed.

I swapped springs and axle from a SRW into mine and it all fits just right.

The cab and chassis dually axles were actually narrower than the SRW axles. So watch out for that also.

I purchased the truck with the conversion aready done by the previous owner. Actually the whole kit was done by a guy locally who was doing it on the side but he has since passed on so I cant even phone him up as he was known for performing some intresting suspension conversions.
