i think i might just grab a 78 f150 drag link i can get one new for $200 bullseye can get it, the SD steering i have the TREs are not in the greatest shape and im not sure if it will pass inspection where i know the 78 tie rod i have will pass and a brand new drag link will pass as well so thats the safe and easy way to go, i wish that the SD steering was on the truck so i could have determined that the joints were bad, well one joint was still attached but thats no help..
im gonna be busy this week with canada day and me n my girls anniversary (also canada day) and work so i might not get much done for the next little while but i have my list of TO DOs down to 8 things including remaining repairs to pass inspection which isnt bad nothing terribly expensive i dont think cept for lifting the rear end (6" leaf spring run around $650, 6" so i can eliminate the 2" rear axle block)
@ guitarnik, i really wish i would have built the diff up first and had everything ready and bought before i started this would have saved alot of time and money and the whole truck would have been done months ago including repairs...LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES i know i did
9.ford.5 i usually do things like you are and learn as i go and fly by the seat of my pants. i usually get frustrated right in the middle and then im super happy when its all done. but this will prolly be the biggest project ive ever done to my truck so im gonna take my time collecting things and plannin it. your thread is a BIG help.
78 drag link is too long because of the gear box located on the outside of the frame rail in 78 and if i remember right it dont fit in the pitman arm.
my trac bar runs inside the engine x-member and like i said im just gonna take a peek but if i remember right it worked last time i checked on my setup...

okay update... i bought a new 78 f150 drag link and i am going to have it chopped and sleeved to fit and be adjustable, gotta get to garrys monday and get that trac bar maybe getting my ext. shocks and brake lines ordered monday
milwaukee, i suggest getting a d60 if you already have a f350? (d44= 5lug, your f350=8 lug), just buy a complete non running f350 4x4 for parts then swap everything over...to swap from 2wd to 4wd with that f350 you will need a t-case, drive shafts, front axle, steering and suspension, and im not sure about the c6 but i know with a zx you need a new tail housing for the tranny to mount the t-case
Why didnt you just get a drag link for a 1990 f350 and be done with it? Like i said before jc whitney sells them cheap, then buy a sleeve and end for it and done. Think I had 60 bucks wrapped up in mine and i've pounded the **** outa my truck sense my sas and it
works good

that was my original idea exactly but as you can see from the pictures i have a horribly uneven and awkward surface where that bracket needs to be right under the coil bucket in front of the coil spring and it is not a suitable mounting surface so i planned a bracket using the 3 bolts for the power steering box, its a major PITA i have to pass an inspection after this but theres no way around it
well you tell me then lol thats long distance big time...I FINALLY FOUND DOM TUBING! so now my plans for steering have changed again now i was thinking DOM tubing and heim joints all around...
ok no-one knows for sure weather heim joints in steering is legal or not but its more leaning to no...so i found TREs that fit in the 95s pitman and the 78s tie rod, they are the same size BTW...they only had one of the joints so monday i have to order the other one along with 30" of 1.25" OD .250 wall DOM tubing...both TREs will be left hand thread so there will be no jam nuts and it aint commin loose...
still have not heard anything about my shocks or brake lines so after steering i will get on the trac bar
i have one question about pulling gears in the 75 d44...do they require a puller or no, i know some years do and some dont but i need to do the axle seal in the passenger side so ill do that when im bored again
