yeah i was planning on doing them but that will have to wait about 2 more weeks and i dont have excess to an impact in my garage i have one at work but its air
for getting the balljoints tight just stick a floor jack under it and jack it up enough to put pressure on knuckle and tighten up the nut, works great.
The first pic....see the stainless looking bracket coming down from the right side of the crossmember....thats where my trac bar attached
oh ok i see isnt that a little bit short? i messed around with it a bit today and found if i shorten the 78 trac bar about 4" and take the bend out of it at the same time it shall work but if i compress the suspension hard i might get some bump steer but i dont see me compressing it like that... if i cut the bend out and weld it back together at roughtly the middle i should still be sufficiently strong right

hmm if i made mine short like that that would reduce bump steer i got rid of the old TTB Ibeam bracket from the driver side today i had to grind out all 6 rivits till there was nearly nothing left of the bracket to get it off...4 of the rivits are still in the x-member cause they wouldnt come out LOL, and i swapped out the rad arm bracket bolts with new 8.8s, broke ANOTHER park brake adjuster thing still cant get the drag link off i almost took a grinder to it then i decided not to...bad idea
hey ryan exactly how long is that trac bar i measure up today and the easiest way to do it without it binding and parts contacting each other its right where yours is and the bar measured about 24" ...how much lift is that
well anyways i managed to find the caliper brackets ive been looking for, found them in the back of the truck id been getting parts from for how long now? oh well so now i dont have to buy the million dollar disc brake conversion just a few parts so tonight im going to order spindles, hubs, calipers, some steering stuff and ball joints, the passenger side BJs were good but the driver side ones are stiff
so i will be able to resume the build as soon as these parts arrive and i will try and find a camera for ya
on the bump steer.. you want the trac bar and the drag link to be as close to the same length and same angle as possible because they need to travel through the same arc, it not you get bump steer.
My trac bar was about 26-28 inches.....like i said before it was shorter than i'd have liked, but it still worked just fine.....very very little bumpsteer
yeah i painted my caliper brackets black today i ordered my motor mounts they will be in friday although that has absolutely nothing to do with this
anywho i bolted up the 78 tie rod and looks like im gonna need a new one to pass the inspection...oh well
went to the parts store to get a tie rod separator and turns out its over $40 and im only gonna need it once hopefully so ill just see if i cant borrow one from someone at work i am gonna search around here for some more parts tomorrow and if not ill order what i can from bronco graveyard till next payday
and on the trac bar subject i should be able to get away with 30" i think and thats only 4" shorter than stock only problem is if dont build the bracket just right either the trac bar will hit the x-member or the diff will hit the trac bar or a combination of the above im going to see about rippin in to work tomorrow to build the trac bar then ill have to measure and plan a bracket tomorrow night
