Thats the thing i talked to a paint shop and they told me they could paint them but there was no guarantee that they would stay so saying that i dont want to pay some one to paint them and in a few the paint falls off

I painted mine (see gallery) and they are holding up quite well. It's a DIY job. Use the adhesion promoter and 3 coats a clear coat after & you'll be all set.

yes, but be aware mirrors are more likely to chip/peel due to being more in the line for flying debris whilst driving...

sounds like the body shop just didnt want the work.. with proper prepping ur handles will last just as long as the factory painted handles..

in fact if u order a painted handle from Ford theres every chance u could receive a "paint to match" handle anyways.. thats how we get replacement door handles all the time at teh shop i work at..

its common for every car maker to sell unpaintd handles that require being matched to the vehicle in qustion...

The only place to get them is the dealer pretty much. Unless you luck out at a junkyard, but they usually won't sell just the handle. I got lucky and got my front ones really cheap from a diesel shop in Nashville, they only had like 3 left when I ordered them back in Nov. of last year. I had to get the rears from the dealer. If you order from the dealer, make sure that you don't order the rear door handles from an Excursion as the rods are different because the rear door is bigger on the Ex than on the Superduty, I found that out the hard way . But I just took the rods off of my old door handles so it was all good.

Just get a rattle can of color matched paint, some primer, and some clear and have at it. It won't be resistant to scratches from keys and stuff, but at least it's cheap and easy to touch up.

Get the paint code and go to the local paint shop that supllies the body shops and they will match the color exactly. If it flakes off, just paint it again it is not that hard.

i made the switch on my 2004 and the texture is different. The black door handles have a texture and the painted ones are smooth. I purchased mine from y2k discount ford parts. Not sure if they are still a sponsor but you get a discount.
