Off road fuel

Have any off you Diesel drivers ever had your fuel checked for off road fuel?

My minds wandering this morning. Thanks to all who reply. Jim

Only heard stories myself. I'm curious why they got checked.

I know people that have and it runs just fine until you get your tank dipped.

The DOT here in MA are pulling trucks over all the time for inspections. If they dip your tank and you have off road diesel you get fined big time. IMHO it is not worth the "extra: savings.

Certain states/counties are notorious for dipping tanks, and other places never once get checked. It's all about hunting for revenues.

I've not seen it here, except for commercial trucks checked by Texas DOT. But then again, I haven't seen off-road diesel anywhere around here either. You'd look pretty obvious driving up to a pump and filling your tank with red diesel, then driving off...

I see the Dippers al the time here, but mainly they stop the big ones or duelly's pulling a goose neck, but still no red diesel for me, just a little home brew bio. I wonder what would say about that.

I got check once in western Kansas. I swear the trooper say me fill up at a CO-OP station that sold both farm fuel and regular fuel and thought that I was cheating. Plus, having out-of-state plates, he figured he got me good. He literally pulled me over a 100' from the station and dipped the tank. No dye so no fine.

Yes our trucks will run on off-road diesel, but if you get caught be prepared to pay up. Apparently in some states they have a swap the run through the tail pipe that allows them to tell if you're running red fuel w/o dipping your tank or inspecting the filter.

I was at a pump that had both red and regular. I pulled out the wrong pump and inserted it before I caught myself. Filled up and walked away to pay. Came back and there was a cop waiting for me. He was wondering if I did go with the dyed fuel. Showed him the receipt and he left. So, they could be running a sting there.
