Hey Guys, I listed my truck for sale on this site a few days ago and was wondering if I'm priced to high (be honest,I can take it). 2001 250 Super Duty XLT Lariat 5.4 loaded with all the options including block heater and off road package (no sunroof though). I'm the original owner and have taken care of the truck (oil changes every 3k trans flushes every 40k) with the intensions of rolling up 200k or more miles on it (currently have 129k). The truck is True Blue with a light gray leather int. The truck is an IL truck so there is a little bubbling along the bottom door seam but thats about it for rust. The rest of the truck body and paint is in nice shape. I was asking $8600. Is that way out of line? Whats fair in this market/economy? Thanks, Dave
What I would do is go look on Kelly Blue Book and type in the info for your truck, you'll get a better idea what its worth. People are buying up used cars now a days with this economy from the high price of new vehicles, good luck..sounds like a nice truck.
If you really want to know what its worth in this economy take it to a dealer and ask them to appraise it then add $1500 - $2000. The dealer knows how to price used vehicles to sell. I traded in my 06 for $15,500 and they had it on the lot for $17,500 and 3 days later it was gone. The used truck demand around here is really low.
KBB, NADA, and all the other guides don't account for times such as these during a recession. The fact of the matter is that trucks are a dime-a-dozen these days because everyone wants fuel efficiency. It's certainly a buyers market when it comes to trucks. Look at your local craigslist and see what similar trucks are going for.
All that aside, if it is in nice shape like you say I'd guess that the price you have is fair. If I were to list my truck I'd put it up for $10,000 and go from there. Better to start high and lower the price over time than start low and never get the amount of $$ you originally wanted for it.
Thanks guys, I looked at edmunds and kbb and both seem to put it in the $7000 to 7700 range for a 'good condition' truck. I think it's pretty much like everything else, need to hook up with some one looking for a truck like that, then you'll get the price. by the way it is an extended (super) cab. Thanks again, Dave
