Angry Darn It...Broke Something...Again

As usual, my modding process involves something broken.

Got my 5mm White LED's yesterday and tried to install them tonight. The intent was to do custom Mirror Flood lights that are keyed for when you open/shut the doors...or lock/unlock the doors with the remote clicky thing.

FYI: DO NOT PULL ON THE MIRROR GLASS TO REMOVE THE GLASS from the mirror...Instead, position the damn thing in the fully up spot. Reaching from the bottom, use a thin flathead screwdriver and GENTLY pry the glass off the concentric ring.

I boldly went and broke me a mirror. Now I gotta buy a new one. Anyone care to hazard the replacement cost?

so now you know...glad to have shared with y'all

Tell me more about these lights. Dimensions? Pictures? Will you just wire them into the interior lights? I'd like to add them to my 08 Super Duty towing mirrors I have and maybe in the bottom of the doors.

I'll be posting up another thread in a day or 2 when I'm done installing them

but until then:
I bought 6 LED white lights...to give me 3 per mirror. they are 5mm floods from Oznium.com...ran me about $12 I think for them after shipping. as a bonus, they came pre-wired with the resistor already in.

Pre-Wired LED's from Oznium.com

but yeah, the LED's will be wired to come on whenever the interior dome lights do. There is a switched wire that runs from the inst. cluster to each interior light. I'm tapping off the center dome light to feed the 6 LED's.
that wire only sees power when you unlock the doors via remote, or you open the door.

the 07+ guys should already have it run to their doors...we old 04-06 F-150's have to custom run it...which is crap.

I did some tests tonight in the dark. They are pretty bright. Lit up the truck like I wanted...a bit of a "cool" light. 4 LED's per mirror would probably be ideal, but I ain't gonna wait for 2 more

not so sure if you have the wire already or not Monsta...what year is your truck? Excursion right? I have a factory 05/06 Ford tech manual. Might be of some help.

can't hurt to look anyways

Just a heads up when I got my remote starter installed they hooked into the wire I think you are talking about. So that when I started my truck my parking lights and instrument cluster came on. At first it worked great then it started blowing fuses then eventually shot the dimmer switch completely which gave me no instrument lights whatsoever. Luckily ford gave me a new one under warranty. If that's not the wire you are talking about let me know which you are for when I attempt this.

I had thought of doing something similar... right now I have my 57" LED bars under the cab. In this link they are amber but I've swapped colors as of month ago (white). https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...y-install.html (The drivers door is cracked open thats how the light is on)

The bars are dual colored. Im thinking of using the ambers just for a turning light (not running).

You are putting them behind the mirror to make it seem like its glowing? for some reason I'm having trouble comprehending the idea...

I just sold a set of them mirrors off my 04 for 247.50 for both. I have seen them on tascaparts.com for 148 a piece which is more than what I paid for my oem tow mirrors. I seen single used mirrors for 150 and they were still bidding on them. They arent cheap. Now Im just waiting for my money cause it just ended yesterday.

the wire is Black with Light Blue stripe...20 gauge. it runs from the inst. cluster, down the drivers side, along the back wall and then up the passenger side to the fuse box

it also branches off to run up the pillars to each cargo light, and by the 3rd brakelight

nope, guess I didn't word it right. these will be DIY puddle lamps.

I've been wanting the feature since I found out about it on the 07 models, but I'm not paying the couple hundred $$$ to buy them.

they will mount from the inside of the front casing through 3 holes and the tips will poke through the bottom...and hopefully only illuminate the ground underneath the mirror

How are you making out locating your mirror?

I found/used a "door-wire" off of my back cab wall (ReCab). Iirc, it was a green wire unused in small (2) two wire harness.

I went up the passenger/driver pillars behind the grab handles and across the roof above the headliner to the front dome light. it will have 2 wire harnesses. 1 harness is the normal/keyed power, the other harness is for moonroof/rear slider (if equipped)

you want the Black with light blue stripe (20 gauge) wire that is part of the dome light harness

that wire is keyed power everytime you unlock/open the doors. it is on a 10 minute timer as well.

there is supposed to be a black-light blue wire on the floor by the passenger seat inside the door sill drain, but I couldn't find one that was hot as described.
