Hey guys, Where is the neutral safety switch on a 78 F150 2wd? It has a c6 but Ive searched through here on the forum and my trans doesnt have any kind of electronics on it. Is it in the column? under the dash? I have a B&M pro ratchet and need to hook up my NSS so I can legally race and this little thing has me stumped. Any help would be great. Thanks
I thought the switch was moved to the side of the transmission in 1978, but I could be wrong. It's very easy to overlook, so take a look at the driver side of your transmission again. It's probably caked in grime.
see heres my problem, mine is a 78 so its on the trans, but my trans is not origianal and has no mounting holes anywhere so it must be an 77 or earlier. What plug on the firewall hooked to this switch? I think i found it but a picture would be awesome. My shifter has one in it so I have one, I just need to wire it into my ignition system. Thanks

1978 and later, the NSS is located on the transmission, sort of..that is.
You will not find any mounting holes for the NSS on any 1978/79 F100/350 auto transmission, because...
The NSS is mounted to the outer manual control selector lever, not on the transmission itself.
The outer selector lever has a hole thru it, the NSS has a hole in it. Behind the selector lever is the inner kickdown lever with a threaded end.
The inner kickdown lever passes thru the outer manual control selector lever, thru the hole in the NSS, which is held on to the threaded end of the inner lever by a nut and washer.
ok so Im going to use the switch that came with my shifter, where the heck do I find the wires to do it with? My trans doesnt have the stock switch. Thanks
The wiring plug for the NSS is at the firewall on the passenger side almost directly above the passenger side valve cover. NSS mounted to the trans, 79 C-6 Bronco.
The switch on the 1978/79 F100/350's, according to the parts catalog illustration, mounts on the outside of the manual control selector lever, not to the trans itself.
The Illustration of the NSS shows no mounting holes except where the inner kickdown lever fits.
I put a steering column from a 78' F-250 into a 77' F-250 every bolted in except the nuetral safety switch and I can't figure out the reverse lights either. The nuetral safety switch I can live without but,I need reverse lights. Is the switch for the reverse lights incorporated in with the nuetral safety switch? Is there any way to get them to work with the different column. The old column had the nuetral switch half way down the column.Any help would be appreciated thanks.
I have no idea how you are going to make a NSS work with that setup. The reverse lights are wired thru the NSS on 78-79's, not sure how they were wired on 77-earlier.

I figured out how too get the nuetral safety switch and reverse lights to work.I cut a hole in the steering column like the 77' model had and mounted the nuetral safety switch and the actuator arm on the new column. It was fairly easy too do,probably easier than rewiring and adding a switch to the transmission.
