Silver, both of them are excellent. As to which one is 'better', that depends on what are you going to do. For most pickup truck stuff, the D2s are a better choice. The C4s are well thought of for drag racing if you are useing iron heads. The C4s have larger intake ports, and a higher exit exhaust. Most folks think thats good, and usually, it is. But if you don't have a really good intake, and headers, the C4 heads won't help you. Either set of heads will be helped greatly from some bigger valves. On a 390, I like to run 2.19 intakes and 1.65 exhausts. The hard seats for the bigger exhausts is easier to install in the D2 head. The D2 heads also came with an induction hardened exhaust seat, but a valve job usually cuts through that, and you really should install new hard seats, no matter which heads you use. better heads??

Thanks Dino,
The truck is hopfully just going to be a strong running reliable 390. haven't decided on headers yet, they would be nice but not sure if I want to deal with the starter/header issues I have heard about. Edelbrock intake and a Holley 4bb along w/ pertronics is about I've done to the 360 in the truck now. I was just undecided on which heads would be better everything being equal in case I have to go through either set. the D2's have the smog holes and the C4's do not

i feel the d2te have a better exhaust design, the headers seem to favor the later heads. And bigger valves usually help stock heads out, not to much you can increase the venturi proportionallly to the valve size.

wel in my opinion "not that it meens anything" but You cant go wrong with the C4 heads.Period...Most new aftermarket head fit closer to the larger ports on the C4 as than they do the later heads..

And as for a later build -up and or upgrade for more ponies..the D2 will "NOT" flow as well as the C4's after a max effort port job at around 300cfm...But you also need to have the intake port matched at that time to the new port work..and too utilize that much flow you'll need a larger cam, upgrade in the valve train also..and compression to support it all...

But if all your looking for is just some friday night thumpity thump...run what you want and put in a small Comps 262H and set of headers and some cheap exhaust..and that'll get you looked at ..At stop lights.. Rumpity rumpity rump..LOL

I agree the c4's have more potential, its hard to tell what people really plan to do with parts they post about.

If you going to bother with the C4's plan on going all the way IMO. I wouldnt use them for a daily driver setup personally as it would be a waste of a BAD *** set of heads that deserve better. Use the D2's and a bunch of pretty bolt ons and be done with it. Rumpity rump as Russ say's... You get the rice burners respect and his sphincter twitching off the line and still be able to afford to drive a reliable FE powered rig.

Are you sure about the C4AE-H casting number? I've never come across that one. The first thing that comes to mind is the 4 is a 8 and they are C8AE-H which are very close in relation to the D2's. The most common C4 heads to find are the C4AE-G. If for some reason the heads are C4AE-F those are 427 high risers and you can sell them for enough to buy a really slick set of heads. The last possibility is the C3AE-H which are also 427 head castings. Casting numbers can be slurred and look like one thing when they are another. Intake port size also a clue when compared side by side. I'd double check those numbers. Add a pic if possible to your gallery. Just an observation here.....
