Hi all, and thanks in advance for any help. I have a 96 F150 4.9 l6. I have been suffering from idle issues, and have been checking various threads and trying to figure this out. Ive checked vacumn leaks with no luck, cleaning the throttle body.
There in no check engine light issues but since it is OBD II I thought i would try to pull codes anyways.
And here is where it went wrong, I borrowed a friends scanner and hooked it to my DLC and nothing happend. I know the scanner is good because after trying it in my truck i used it on my brothers mustang and it worked.
So my question is has anyone ever hear on a DLC Data Link Connector going bad? Is there a fuse for it. The connection had a cover on it and the wires behin it look alright. (cant see much of them) Any help again would be appreciated.
I've got one of those dudes (the truck that is) a '94 don't you have the EEC4? i do NOT have an OBD2 on it, the connectors for mine are under the hood, it's a cheap setup, i have a code reader for mine, innexpensive forgot where i bought it. it beeps at you and the "check engine" light flashes codes. If you have a newer computer, that's good. if you have my type, i suggest finding a code reader that slips into the connectors properly. Good luck!
Thanks for the replies Megawatt, Survey, & Franklin. First, Mega, the fuse was blown. Replaced and powered right up. I cant believe i missed the fuse, boy o boy. Goes to show dont be in a hurry check the basics. Thanks guys no to dive into the codes.
Just the the heck of it the condition the truck is experiencing is rough idle.
Pulled codes p0385 - crankshaft position sensor b circuit malfunction. p0171 - system too lean (bank 1) p0174 - system to lean (bank 2). Time to do some more research. Thanks guys
