OBD DLC not working correctly

Warning, the vehicle in question is a 2001 Windstar. I'm not sure if this is the place to post Windstar questions, but I couldn't find a better one.

Anyways, the OBD Data Link Connection is not working properly. When I plug in my scanner it DOES power up and will read the ABS info, but will not read anything else.

The scanner is new, and a pretty good one for a DIYer, and I've tried it in other vehicles. I've also tried another reader that also didn't work on this van. So I don't think it's the scanner.

My Haynes manual has no info on how to wire a DLC or how to repair/replace one.

How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Most DIYer scanners for starters, are not scanners, they do NOT contain manufacturer specific PIDs, only generic PIDs, regardless of what the manufacturers claim. If the scanner does not ask you specific information about what you are plugging it into, then it will not be able to pull manufacturer specific codes. While I am surprised that you are having trouble pulling codes on a Windstar. Its PIDs should be the same as those of a Taurus. Most of the Fords that create difficulty with reading the data are trucks in the late 90s.

As for a fix, it might help if we new what scan tools you are using.

The tool I'm using is Autel MaxiDiag Pro MD801. Autel MaxiDiag Pro MD801

And yes it does ask me for specific info about my vehicle when searching for manufacturer specific PIDs.

Like I said, it does read the ABS info while plugged into the DLC, but nothing else. Every other scanning function throws a communication error. And this scanner does work on other vehicles.

I'm pretty convinced the problem is with my van, and not the scanner. The problem is, I have no idea how the DLC is wired. There's no wiring diagram for it in my haynes manual and no instructions on how to fix a problem like this.

Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

About the only thing I can think of would be to check the connector itself for bent or missing pins/contacts or else look along the wiring loom to see anyone has tapped into it for powering audio or other components and severed the connection to the DLC. Could there be a fuse protection circuit for the DLC? Strange problem for sure.

I checked all the fuses. They're all good.
