I am in the process of taking apart a '99 Explorer. I want to use the complete dash assembly in a '53 F-100 as it is just the right width and depth for what I hsve in mind. So far I have all the stuff out of it like the instrument cluster, radio and heater controls and glove box out.
What I need to know is what it the procedure for removing the least parts form this point on to get the whole thing out. Do I have to remove the steering column??? If anyone has done this or has or knows about links to any kind of pictures or illustrations I would greatly appreciate the help.
A guy had a set of instructions on the ranger forum for doing this. It's essentially the same dash. I used the instructions to pull the dash on what was then my daughter's Ranger for rep[lace the heater plenum and they were great. I will see if I can find them for you and provide a link.
Looks like you need to follow steps one through eight, unplug the wire harness, and it should pull right out. I was replacing the heater plenum so I only pulled it out as far as I needed to and did not un;ug everything when I did mine.
Thanks Guys,
I spent the day in the shop pulling the partially canabalzed one out of the '99 I'm using for the donor vehicle as practice. I even figured how to do it without removing the steering column. I think I can do it in 30 minutes at a yard now that I know where all the bolts and what their sizes are. It took me about four hours to fumble through everything. Now I'm ready.
