Any one know how to remove the dash board panel on a 2003 Econoline?
Not the whole dash, but the hard plastic dash cover that goes around the instrument cluster, heater controls, and the radio.
I think this dash has been around for about 10+years, so I doubt 2003 is unique.
I'm adding a few accesories, and would like to see what and where my options are.
I was fooling with it today, and it seemed like it could come off with out removeing the entire dash.
I'm a little gun shy since nearly everytime I've tried to remove an interior trim piece, something breaks.
If someone knows the particulars, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks -Rob-
I haven't removed one in a while but I think this is how it's done
Remove the headlight switch ****. It has a tab sorta thing on the back of it that pulls towards the **** to release it from the shaft. Then unscrew the bezel around the hole where the headlight switch is. Remove the 2 screws from above the instruments and then the whole panel pulls straight off.
Thanks for the response Dave. Got that far yesterday, but the right side around the radio and heater controls is not loose. Does the radio have to come out? How? I see the four holes on the radio face that look like they might be for removeing it. If so, are there screws back there, or do you just push something in them?
I dont think the radio has to come out but I'm not positive.
You can pick up radio removal tools at a parts store or probably at an audio store or some guys make their own out of coat hanger wire. You need to push that into each of the holes at the same time to release the tabs that hold the radio in.
There may be screws behind the weather seal on the engine cover, so you may need to pull it back and look. It not then it's just clipped to the dash. If it's the first time it's been removed you will probably need to pry gently with a small screwdriver. Those clips can be pretty tough. Our '88 has a few and they hold like there's no tomorrow.
The panal simply pops off around the radio and temp controls. Use a small screwdriver(dont bend it, clips are pretty tough) and start with the right most point of the panal. BE CAREFULL to use something underneath the screwdriver when prying on the actual dash panal b/c the material is pretty soft and any dents you out in it wont come out at all!!
