C6 Column shift linkage removal...

There's some sort of retainer/nut on the linkage that holds the column shift rod onto the bracket beside the C6, but I can't figure out how to get it off. I'm sure this is simple and I'm just not seeing it, but someone please help me out here... and thanks.

Just been informed that rather than removing the rod from the linkage bracket, maybe it's easier to remove the entire bracket from the transmission. Any thoughts?

The bracket is only two bolts. Beats fighting with the grommets holding the linkage.
