Automatic transmission shifting

I am going to be using a C6 in my 1947 truck with a 351w.

How hard (or is it even possible) would it be to fabricate a shift linkage so that I could have a column shifter? I have a column from the donor vehicle that has the shifter on it and I have all the original linkage.

I know I can easily go with a floor shifter, but there is so little room in the cab that I would love to keep it on the column if possible.

Even more cool would be to convert the column shifter on my factory column into an automatic shift linkage instead of the manual 3 speed shifter like it was.

Am I crazy to try something like that or is it a possibility?

Maybe you could find an early column shift that was affixed to the steering column tube

You might use the tube, column drop and shift lever assembly from a '42-'47 Ford car. They can be modified for use with an automatic and would look like it belongs in the truck.
