I once had the horrific duty of giving faith and comfort to a family of Mexicans, on the I 15, in California, when the vehicle combination they were travelling hit a concrete bridge support at over 80 mph. The family was travelling in an ancient Dodge pick-up truck, towing an equally ancient travel trailer (bumper hitch) The Dad, Mom and Eldest son were in the Pick up cab, The Dog, and two Children were in the pick up bed, and four other Children, two Women and a couple of goats were in the trailer. Most were killed when they were thrown from the vehicle combo as it disintegrated, the Mom and one other Woman died as I gave comfort to them. They both came to rest at the other side of the freeway, against the wall of the bridge. All the children were in many pieces as were the Dad, and the Goats....
In other words, BE Careful what you tow, AND DO NOT let anyone ride in the pickup bed, or the trailer... It may be me that has to give the last rights to your loved ones, and I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO have to do that - IT really hurts me.
I really don't care what the law's opinion on the issue might be, the minister is making a good point, lets be careful with this stuff. I'm willing to pull doubles, but in very heavy traffic or bad weather it might be a good idea to pull over for a rest. The time saved from pulling two at once isn't worth dieing for. DF
I agree, the minister has good advice. I pull a 28 foot fifth wheel and a small SeaDoo trailer behind that... things are pretty stable and safe... but, that little boat and trailer don't weigh very much. Play it safe and don't ride with people in unsafe places. Never in the trailer or the truck box... er, bed.
