I would suggest double checking your firing order against another source. The firing order for my 351 Windsor (different vehicle, not a truck) was printed wrong in my Chilton's. Stuff happens.

Firing order is correct. I think I may have found the problem. The module on the inside of the distributor is cracked. Although I can't be 100% sure this is the issue, it can't be good. So I think I will have to pick up a new distributor. Hopefully this is the issue!

Don't buy a whole new distributor just because of the pickup module. The pickup module comes as a baseplate and module assembly. The veined armature must be removed from the distributor shaft to remove this. The distributor itself stays put the entire time.

Ignore my last post, I forgot this is an HEI distributor. I don't know if it's the same setup or not. Maybe your truck doesn't like Chevy parts in it?

Yeah, but it is so much cleaner looking with the HEI set up. Maybe I will look at a MSD set up or something.

I would change the module, check to make sure your marks on your timing chain are aligned....and maybe the below will help. What engine is in the truck?? You should have around 30 degrees of total timing with timing light and should be running good.

The 13726548 firing order was used on all 351 Windsor engines as well as the 82-up "Hi-Output" 5.0 engine.

The 15426378 firing order was used on "stock" 221/260/289/302 engines from 1962 thru the late 80's. Non-"HO" 5.0's also used this firing order.

The engine is a 351M. I can't just replace the module in the inside of the distributor. It is a Proform HEI distributor. They don't sell just this module that is cracked.

Are you sure? About $20. And this should be the firing order for your motor....13726548 firing order

It is not that part that is cracked. It turns out that it is just the cover on the part that attaches to that part. I pulled the distributor and the valve cover and made sure I was at TDC on the compression stroke, reinstalled the distributor and adjusted the idle on the carb and finally got it set. Thanks for all the input.

Good to hear it's running, was it 180 out?

I am not sure. I always thought if it was 180 out it wouldn't run at all. I am thinking it was a combination of the distributor maybe being a couple of teeth off and the idle not being set right.
