First, Welcome to FTE! Glad to have you here. You were a little vague on your setup. We're going to need a little more info to try to help you out. What drivetrain (engine, transmission, 4WD or 2WD) do you have in it? There are lot of mods available out there depending upon your drivetrain, etc.
Here's the short list. Any engine is an air pump, more air in and more air out, then pump a little more fuel into it.
So,
Cold air kit to get the air in, exhaust work to get the air out, a computer tune to make use of all this air. After this, you need to start considering what you want out of it. I would say gears and probably a some kind of shift kit or valve body. <BR> Gears will make the truck feel anywhere from 500-2500lbs lighter, but you need to match them to tires your going to run. With stock sized tires, I wouldn't go to 4.56, but with 35" tires, they are nice. With the 35" if you want a more performance orientated feel, 4.88 is a better choice, but it's a little less well mannered on the interstate. Find a gear calculator, put in your tire size and I think 0.74:1 for 4th gear. 60mph is a pretty good speed to set the rpms for, 60mph at 2000 rpms is the good middle ground to low rpm cruise and performance. If you turn more RPMs for 60mph, the truck will feel lighter, if you turn fewer, the truck will be dogged off the line.
Well, I'll be honest with you and tell you I know a lot more about the 6.0 than the 7.3. That said, have you priced programmers? You also may want to post this here:
From what I skim from the 7.3 guys tony wildman is to 7.3 as the sct is to the 6.0.... A chip will do a lot for the truck also the diablo predator is siad to be good on the 7.3. Unless you are running large tires gearing is not going to do anything for you. The exaust, chip will most likely be the best bang for buck upgrades. Much after that is a 6.0 intercooler and some other tech stuff. There are a lot of free mods for the 7.3. I'm a 6.0 guy so I may be wrong but good luck with the truck and the search for hp and speed
