What do you race?
What do you race?
I know we have a lot of racers here, I used to be one myself but now I seem be working on someone else's race car all the time. When I raced, I raced Fords, with one exception. My very first race car was a Toyota Celica mini-stock. Then I built a Capri with a 2.0, sold that after racing it three seasons and built a T-bird bodied Late Model, 302 powered.
But now, I find myself having to work on a...wait for it...Chevy! (Shudders and groans in disgust!)
How did I get myself into this? Ahh, the things we let ourselves get talked into out of friendship!
So, as I fought with this thing today I got to wondering...how many of you guys (or gals) drive Ford trucks, but race GM, or even Mopar?
If you race in an import class, do you still race a Ford, or something else?
How many of you are True Blue and race a Ford, towing it to the track with your Ford truck, or what have you? (A few times I towed my mini-stock with my '61 Land Rover, or whatever was running that week!)
Just curious. (I told the owner/driver of the C***y that I'm working on that I was going to put a Ford oval on the thing somewhere, maybe a sticker I have that says, "Real Race Cars don't wear Bowties!" ...he wasn't too enthusiastic about the idea!) -TD

This will be my 23rd year of racing Ford stock cars.
Wow...23 years...man I'm getting old
lol
I race a Pro-Stock T-Bird bodied, Crown Vic framed car with a 351W.
I've won our track's championship a few times including the last 2 years.
I'm the only Ford in our class. It drives the Chev guys nuts
Other than a few times, I've always towed my car to the track with a Ford truck.
Not too long after I started racing I was towing my car to the track behind my F-250 4x4 with 38.5" Ground Hawgs and a 428CJ in it when the fuel pump died. Most of us just used tow bars instead of trailers then.
I got my brother to steer the truck and I pushed it home with the race car, by the tow bar. It still looked like we were towing the car

I started racing my 63 Mini Cooper when I was 15 at Motorkhanas, and hill climbs etc...
I still take it to the occasional hill climb and to some club events.
I have raced my Ford Falcon, on motorkhanas (car is a bit too big though), 1 drifting event (lots of fun), about a dozen track days, a few off-street drag events.
I have also raced a friends RX-7 at a few club events (HUGE fun)
I did race my Raptor at some ATV sand races a few years ago as well.
I am currently helping set up a drag/ski boat powered by a triple rotor, although I am not driving it...
Am also helping to build a 600cc race car. It looks like I will be one of the drivers for it too.
None of MY cars get towed to events, one of my criteria of setting up a car is that they have to be driven there and back...
However the boat is towed by a Mazda B-Series powered by a 13B rotary (the guys that own the boat are rotorheads!!!).
The 600cc race car is towed by a 2003 Ford Falcon Wagon.

I run a 2003 Coyote Widetrack. Nope, it's not a car it's an asphalt oval kart. I always wanted to race a car, but the financial end of it kept me from doing it. Like I told a friend of mine, it's not WHAT you race, it's THAT you race that's important. And yes, I pull my trailer to the track with my 86 F150. I'd never use anything else, except an F250 or 350, or.....

I race a Z06 Corvette. So far just low speed DE's (road course stuff). Not sure why they're considered low speed events since you can usually hit 80-100 in the straights on certain tracks. Haven't been to the drags yet but I'm so hooked on road racing that I don't see the point.
started in the purestreet class (street stocks bombers) 76 monte then moved to mini stocks and now live buy ford power 2300 all the way... all but a month strecth one year I always pull my race cars with a FORD (make the chevy run faster) see pics in my gallery of my 78 with 35's pulling my stockcar!

Okay, so I thought I'd put up a pic (or a link to a pic!) of my car. It's been on its roof since the pic was taken so it's not quite as nice right now, but I plan to rebuild it and switch it over to a road race car. It doesn't turn right very well as it's set up right now! So let's see some pictures of your cars as well! -TD

I used to autocross quite a bit, even took my Late Model out and tried it once. If I had a four-speed with a conventional shifter in it, I could have done better with it, that and maybe a posi rear ened instead of the fully locked nine-incher that's in it. I had to gas it hard enough to break the rear tires loose to get around the tight corners. Went from massive understeer to extreme oversteer in an instant!
One time a buddy let me take his, umm, Corvette around the track. He had a new motor in it and didn't want to risk me overrevving it, so he asked me to just leave it in 2nd and not shift. I did, and took Top Time Of the Day (TTOD). He spent the rest of the day running in second only, trying to beat my time, but he couldn't come close. It's not considered good track ettiquette to beat someone's best time in their own car, so I had to buy the beer... -TD
