I'm gonna go drag racing at the end of the month, and since I don't have my race car ready.. I'm gonna race my truck.
It's bracket racing.. so I don't have to worry about being the fastest.. Just be consistent and good reaction time!
Anyone else ever race their truck?
Have ideas on what to change before the race?
I have 2,000 miles since my last oil change.. I don't think I really need to do that.
I am gonna clean my K&N Drop in filter before...
you'll have to take the lug nut covers off.. but you prolly already know that. The only thing i'd do differently, is get a few bags of sand or salt or whatever, and throw em in the truck... leave half of em off, if you see the track getting better and you're getting faster, add some sand/salt; if it's getting worse, take some out...
hence, you'll be one of those hated sandbaggers - hence the term, but it does work really well... that's what I lost to at FFW
Only thing I'd try to do is lower the air pressure in the rear tires for more traction on the launch.
I'd take it out of OD with A/C and everything off also.

"Traction off the launch"? Mine will spin the tires on a dirt road, but the LS rear end doesn't let it do squat on pavement. Well, once in a while if it's raining, or after coming out of the car wash. If he's holding the brakes, and running the RPM's up, it will launch a little quicker perhaps, but I don't see a need to drop the tire pressure. I'd overinflate them for less resistance if anything. Might shave 2/10ths of a second off that way.

it depends on the truck. my old 04, 2wd 5.4 w/ 3.73s and a LS, would spin most of 1st gear by just flooring it from a stop. at the track, on the slick surface, it would probably be a helluva lot worse.
And I'd definitely launch using the brake/pre-load technique... you don't wanna launch off idle

My current 08 won't spin the tires at a track...Honest. Especially with all the rubber left at the start point. I had a 2003 SVT mustang that would though!!
If It were me, I wouldn't do it.... but it could be fun. I just wouldn't want to see how slow the results are.
X2
Even though it is a 3 ton truck I would still be embarrased to run 16 seconds +/- in the 1/4 mile, in front of a crowd of people.Maybe it's because my hotrod runs low 11's in the 1/4 ??
hahhahahhahahahahahha...So true...But they haul everything I need, and look damn good doing it. Every time I wind up "racing" another brother, or some fool in the competition, I feel like an idiot by the time I get up to 55-60.
