I am looking at a replacement for my 4.9l because it is toast... what year engines can i use as a straight replacement....

i read/heard something like the air intake or something changed up at some point before they were phased out . would this be a problem or can i use any efi 300?

Many (if not all) of the 96 EFI 4.9s are OBDII and Mass Air Flow instead of Speed Density. The PCM and some of the engine harness might need to be changed. The MAF motors have a single air intake tube and use sequential fuel injection instead of the SDs batch fire system.
